I Challenge You!

I used to belong to an online writers groups that had a goal of helping everyone establish the habit of writing daily. The goal was to write 100 words a day for 100 days. If you missed a day, you had to start over. It was a great group! And we cheered each other the whole way.

It was surprising how hard it was to make that goal. It took almost all of us several starts to do it. I remember being on such a hot streak, so excited about making it so far into my 100 days. Then, bam! One morning I woke up and realized I hadn't written the night before. I'd missed a day and hadn't even thought of it at all! I had to start all over again.

So, I'm challenging you this week. We'll do a mini-version of the 100 day challenge. How about 70 words a day for 7 days. If you miss a day, start over again. If you're interested in the challenge, then let me know next week on Thursday's post how far you made it. I'd love to see how you do!

By the way, any kind of writing counts. Well, not ANY kind. You can't count writing the grocery list (which for me is probably 70 words!) But you can count writing in a journal or outlining or plotting, etc. If you'd like, you can count revising. You may want to decide on a time block to count for that--say 30 minutes. So have at it! See if you can establish a writing habit.

  1. Do I have any takers? Anyone want to take the writing challenge? I'll be doing it with you. :)

I'll be counting my time spent on revisions each day.

Also! If you plan it ahead of time, you can plan to take a day off--like Sunday if you don't want to work on Sunday. I forgot to mention that "rule". :)

  3. LOL, Lindi! NO, blogging does NOT count! That's just a distraction. :) I want you working on that new story so I can read it!

    Glad you're in, too, Christy!

  8. This is day seven for me. I didn't read the rule that blogging didn't count, but I wrote all 7 days so I think I still got the word count.

I even rambled in my journal last night through the fog of a migraine so I wouldn't have to start over. Came up with some good ideas.

  9. Hi, Teresa. I'm so glad you joined us! You know, I started re-thinking blogging later in the week when I wanted to count my own blog writing. :) But I had given Lindi such a hard time about it, I decided I better not. :) So, hey, go ahead and count it! I'm proud of you for working through a migraine, too. I know that wasn't easy.

    Good work!

  10. Do you allow late starters? I just discovered this incentive via FHL and would like to join. I haven't written for...well, it feels like forever. However, I like your challenge, and adore Missy, and want to participate. :)
