All My Children

What does it mean to be a mom?
First of all, I loved being pregnant. Loved it. My children are now 20 and 22. I have two step daughters who I love like my own.
Being a mom spans all emotions. Joy-sadness-everything in between. I am an empty nester mom. All kids are out of the house. It's a very different feeling. I talk to my daughter almost every day. My son-well that's a different story. I talk to him when he can.
Out of all the ladies that are a part of the F.A.I.T.H. blog I think I'm the only empty nester. For everyone who has children at home---enjoy them. The time goes by much too quickly. Before you know it, they are in college and enjoying their own lives.
I have to add I'm a grandmother also!! We have one more grandmother on this loop and I'm sure she'll have something to say on this subject.
Being a grandmother is absolute fun! It's a blast.

I know we are having a fun mothers day contest week---but please keep our F.A.I.T.H. sister Angie in our prayers this week. She has recently lost her mother and we want Angie to know we are praying for her.
Lord-give Angie a sense of peace this week. Let her remember the times of joy with her mother she's had in the past, the reflection she has about her mother these days, and the peace that will follow in the days ahead. Lord, You are the sustainer of strength. We rely on You. We love You.

Thank you for praying with us.

So are there any other empty nesters out there? I know Angie has a couple that are grown, but she still has some at home. I think Mindy has some out. Or if you don't have any empty nesters, how do you think you'll react when they do go out on their own?

  1. Waaaa. My oldest will leave home in just over a year. And I can't even begin to think about it. (sniff, sniff)

So I'm definitely not ready for the empty nest. Luckily, I have two more at home for a while. That'll help ease me into it. :)

  2. I just want to say thank you for the prayers. My mom's funeral went well, but there were a few moments through the weekend that those prayers helped me get through more gracefully! I'm very appreciative of you all.

PS And yes, I have 3 grown and 3 pending high schoolers. sigh. It's a rough transition, but my writing dreams are what God gave me to take over the motherhood days. I'm intense about my writing now and I think that is very, very good. You need something you deeply desire to achieve to help you in the transistion.

  3. Being a Mom is a great exercise in forgiveness -- of myself and my mistakes! Someone once told me, if we were perfect, our children wouldn't need the Lord. I guess that's one way to look at it.

  5. WELL I HAVE FIVE SONS, THREE ARE MARRIED, THE OTHER TWO ARE STILL HOME AND I'M NOT READY FOR THEM TO GET MARRIED YET AND NO WEDDINGS IN SIGHT!
I LOST MY MOTHER IN 1995 SO MOTHERS DAY IS FOCUSED ON MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, WHOM I LOVE VERY MUCH, SHE IS THE GREATEST. JUST THOUGHT THAT I WOULD LEAVE A COMMENT. GOD BLESS ALL THE MOTHERS!

  6. My kids (ages 16, 14, 9 and 7) are all still at home. But, having watched my mom as hers left home, I'm thinking the first couple will be easier than the last two. I just hope I don't become quite as over protective as my mom did when my last one leaves.

  8. Hi all,
Gina and Kathleen--thanks for stopping by. I have to say a special hello to Michelle---how are things going? Glad you came and visited. Did you get your ms mailed off?
Missy---we'll have plenty of Starbuck when your first flees the nest. And Angie has a great point about writing filling the void in our lives.
Good luck to Gina, Kathleen and Michelle for the contest.

  9. Ooops!! And Christy already has a musical daughter. I'm thinking Christy probably has a pretty good voice herself. I'd love to hear her sing.
