Ready for the Call?

I'm not referring to the call from a publisher. I'm talking about God's call on your life. So many of us drift through life wondering what we are meant to do. That's why "The Purpose Driven Life" was a number one bestseller.

Others of us find our calling and things begin to change. We get bored, feel unfulfilled, or life becomes too hard. Either we want a change or we begin to second-guess ourselves. For some, God is moving them on to something else. Their Season has changed.

Regardless of what we choose to do, if we're willing, God can use us right where we are. It may not be what we had in mind, or where we want to go, but we can change the way we think about it. Positive thinking, or an attitude adjustment, can make a world of difference to a person's success and happiness.

It took me a while to figure this out. For years I wrote fiction, hoping to get it published. With each new year, I thought, this is going to be the year.

Looking back, I wasn't ready. God knew it. Agents and editors knew it. Contest judges knew it. Everyone knew it, but me.

Bitterness began to take root. Anger and frustration resulted, until I settled in a depression. Then I became unhappy. I blamed my job, my schedule, and everything else.

God dealt with me. He gave me an attitude adjustment. Am I ready for the call? Only God knows. But, I do know this, as long as I keep Him first, everything else will fall in place where it belongs.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Matthew 6:33

  1. Funny, Jenn, I've had those same thoughts lately. Yes I want to be published, but am I ready for all that entails. I haven't answered that question yet. It could just be fear. In the meantime, I have to remember to submit to God's will. Doing what He wants, following where He leads. I'm doing my best to seek :-)

  2. You make such a good point, Jenn. Looking back, I can see God's hand (God's perfect timing) in so many things in my life. If I had gotten them when I asked for them or when I wanted them, it may not have worked out.

We have to wait for God's plan to unfold. And that's hard to do--especially for me, such a control freak.

God has worked on me to learn to trust. And it's still a struggle.

Thanks for your post, a reminder of that.

  3. Jenn--great post. I liked your title.
And God does work in our lives in ways that are different from what we want. But His ways are better.
We just have to remember that.

  4. Hi Jenn,
I loved this post. I'm at such a transition period so I've decided to devote some time this week to focus on praying for direction now.

  5. Jenn,
You left this verse on Saturday, and on Monday when I read it, the snippet on the side matched your chosen verse:-)
