Greetings from Willow Springs

While the majority of the F.A.I.T.H. girls have been reliving RWA conference, I'm celebrating RITA winner Tamera Alexander by reading her latest book Remembered.

In Remembered, I'm reacquainted with many characters from Rekindled and Revealed. This story is Jack Brennon's, the guide we met in Revealed through Annabelle and Matthew.

Jack is now working as a freighter to the mining towns surrounding Willow Springs.

Veronique Girard comes to the Colorado Territory from France in search of her father who left Paris twenty-five years ago to seek his fortune as a fur trader, vowing to send for his wife and daughter. Veronique takes on the journey of a man she barely remembers and it's Jack Brennan who allows her to travel with him to these dangerous mining towns.

I started Remembered two days ago and wanted to finish it yesterday, or early this morning, but it was 2 am and I knew I had to go to bed or I wouldn't be any good to anyone! All of you moms know where I'm coming from because you know I'm chasing a toddler!

There's not a character in this book that's not life like. From young Lilly to the scallywag proprietors of some of the seediest mining towns Jack and Veronique visit. Tamera's use of setting in this book, from the beautiful Colorado mountains to the pouring rain as they trudge onward to the next mining town, plays a part so real you are riding with them in the wagon. You're braving every challenge they come up against.

My husband, I'm sure, thinks I've lost my marbles again. I mean, I'm carrying this book with me everywhere! I'm sitting down while my daughter naps and my nose it stuck in this book. Never mind the house is a wreck. The dishes, piled high in the sink, aren't getting washed by themselves. I'm too busy. I'm reading Remembered and all else just has to stop until I finish this book.

I'm three-quarters of the way through. I can't decide if this is my favorite of the three books Tamera has published or not. Each have a different quality in their own right even though they take place in the same area of the old West.

Tamera won the RITA for Revealed, the second in the Fountain Creek Chronicles series. Well deserved!

Rekindled was the first in the series. An equally awesome book!

If you enjoy historicals, you must introduce yourself to Tamera's books.

Now, I've got to go.

I must finish this book. Don't ask me if I like how it turns out. So far with Tamera's books, that's simply a given.

Of course, I love them!

  3. I have to tell a funny story about this book. I won it at the booksigning in Dee Gist's giveaways bundle. (Yippee! I won the drawing!)

Actually, let me back up a little. I have both of Tammy's first books at home in my to-be-read pile. And I've heard such great things about them, I've been dying to read them. So when I won Remembered, and had a little time to read one night at RWA, I dug right in. I was on about the second or third page of the book when LIndi came in the room. She saw what I was reading and literally grabbed it from me and slung it across the bed! She said I could NOT read it before the other two! I had to read the them in order or it would spoil it for me. LOL!! It was hilarious!!

So now I'm even more curious about getting to those first books. She has been raving about them since she read them. So as soon as I have some time to read, Rekindled in first in line. :)

  4. You go Lindi! I would have to agree that it would be best to read them in order. Let us know what you think.

    Missy, Missy, Missy, Missy, MISSY!!!!!

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you for trying to read Remembered before the others!

I mean, why don't you just give up chocolate while you're at it. Major spoiler, my dear, major spoiler.

    And way to go Lindi!
(I can just see her doing that too!)

    LOL! Thanks for sharing, Missy.
