Genesis--the beginning

In our Sunday school at church we are discussing Genesis. Chapter by chapter. We also are doing a Beth Moore Bible study on Wednesday nights. The Patriarchs. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Again Genesis. In September a group of us are doing Disciple II---Now Disciple I goes over the entire Bible You end up reading 75-80% of the Bible when you are done with that class. So I didn't know what course of action this Disciple II would be headed. When I asked about it last week I was told the focus is Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. I couldn't believe how excited I was at the opportunity to study Genesis some more.

Obviously, God is reinforcing something in our church.
Something in me. The beginning.

How is it fairy tales start? Once upon a time.....
Genesis starts with In the beginning.....

The stories in Genesis have all the characteristics of a great novel. Conflict, love, marriage, betrayal, deception and the list goes on. The Bible is NOT boring!! Anything but.

Do you ever feel like is bringing one certain point home for you? Some concept or idea that keeps surfacing over and over?

  1. Lindi,
I think I'll come hang out with you on Sundays and Wednesday nights. I would love to be learning all you are. It's difficult to study on your own sometimes.

As for if God is bringing a certain point home for me? I see signs of that alot. Sometimes its just hard to grasp what He means and what He wants me to do with it.

  2. Oh yeah. God knows He has to repeat things with me a lot. I can see Him cupping His holy hands and yelling, "Did you hear me?"
And you're right, the Bible is not boring. Well, maybe the begats are, but hey, if my name were in the Bible, I'd want people to read it. I've always said the Bible has a little bit of everything--murder, incest, rape, love, forgiveness, mighty warriors. . .the list goes on and on. The old testament is a cool place to be.

  3. Mindy,
I agree. The old testament is a very cool place to be. I LOVE it.
Christy, I have a hard time figuring out what He is trying to tell me. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get it.

  4. I've been listening to the Patriarchs tapes (thanks for loaning them to me, Lindi!), and Beth Moore talked about Abraham taking Issac up for the sacrifice on the last CD I listened to. She drew parallels to having to let her daughter and son-in-law go into the mission field. And I sat in the car and bawled my eyes out because I was struggling so with letting my son be on this mission trip in Africa. It was a huge help, and God put that specific Bible story in my life at just the right moment (along with Beth's perfect words).

  5. Missy,
Don't you love it when God does that? Just the right words at just the right time.
    God is good!
