Conference Come-down

My goodness. Where do I start? How about here.
Why the beds? Because they were so comfortable. Although some people didn't take advantage of them as often as they should have :-)

There's nothing like the excitement of a conference. And this year's ACFW conference had to be the best one I've ever attended. Electricity filled the air. Anticipation of what God had in store.

Keynote speaker James Scott Bell was witty, encouraging, and. . .uh, hairy? Sorry, you had to be there. Brandilyn dubbed him "hairy man." Author Leanna Ellis, Lisa Buffaloe, James Scott Bell, and myself

Friday, we hit the ground running. Worship, workshops, appointments, workshops, a fabulous lunch, workshops. And did I mention workshops? They were unbelievable this year. I did Colleen Coble's The Suspense Thickens. Boy, did that give me lots to think about. Sue Brower from Zondervan gave lots of great information in her workshop Professionalism and Publishing. Gayle Roper's workshops on Building to that Emotional Peak and Layering for Depth got the wheels turning. Oh, and let's not forget the late night chats. I visited Susan May Warren's Brainstorming Blitz. Unfortunately, most of us were so wiped out our brains barely refused to function let alone blitz.

Saturday met us with still more workshops, appointments, and a primo book signing. Then came the awards banquet. Ya know, we FAITH girls can clean up pretty good. How fun it was to celebrate Jenn's double Genesis win. You are on your way girl. Though she wasn't too sure how she felt about Angie bowing at her feet.
One of my favorite things about conferences is seeing old friends and making new ones. I met some precious people this year (waving to Beth White, Margie Lawson, Pamela "Pammer" James, Michelle Hutchinson, and so many more). I had the privilege of rooming with my FAITH sister, Christy--our first face-to-face meeting. What a sweetie. And, as you can tell by the above pic, our resident red-head is a knock-out.

So what did I take away from this conference? More than I could have imagined. It's amazing what can happen when you take yourself out of the equation and let God work. He allowed me to make some invaluable connections. He gave me a goal. A lofty one, yes, but with God, all things are possible. Right?

First thing yesterday morning, when I finally began to process everything I'd learned over the weekend, God gave me this verse. I've never even heard it before, yet it was so appropriate.

Hebrews 10:35-36 "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to persevere.

I'm sure Angie, Christy, and Jenn will have more on their conference experiences, but tell us about yours. Were you at ACFW? What did it mean to you?

  1. Mindy, I can't believe you took that photo!!! In case anyone is wondering, Angie was being funny and I was running from her, but apparently, not fast enough.

  2. OH MAAAN!!! Jennifer is way too humble. And lots of fun to tease, lol. Yes, I'm a goofball sometimes. It makes life a little lighter:-D

Great post, Mindy. And I cannot ever thank you and your hubby for taking me to sushi and letting me stay Sunday night enough! Thank you for your hospitality when I was stuck in Dallas a day longer.

  3. LOL Jenn! I agree with Angie, you are so fun to tease and usually I'm the one who gets teased. It was a cute picture and Angie was acting silly. Hilarious!

Thanks for sharing that verse Mindy. Another one I haven't come across yet but so timely.

And me - knock out - I don't think so, but thanks for the compliment.
