Fall Has Arrived

Okay, those of you in the northern tier may be thinking, "Duh!" But here in Texas, we are actually having a fall. Granted it's not fall like most of you would think, but for us, it's fall. That time when daytime temps hover in the low 70's and mornings are cool. This as opposed to going from 90 one day to 50 the next.

The one thing I do miss, having grown up in Michigan, is the color. Some years we get it, some we don't. Most often, not. But just in the past week, the tree tops have shown a little amber. A little russet.

The picture is of the Chinese Pistachio tree in our backyard. Believe it or not, on Friday, this tree was almost completely green. Yesterday I noticed it had been taken over by the stunning, vibrant colors we associate with autumn.

I love all the seasons of the year, each for its own uniqueness. And let's face it, in Texas, they aren't that unique. Still, autumn brings the promise of cooler temperatures. A reprieve from the intense summer heat. Winter brings the hope (at least in our house) of some wintry precipitation. Spring? While much of the U.S. is still shoveling, we're seeing flowers and trees budding anew. Summer means backyard barbecues and spending lots of time in the pool.

What's your favorite season?

  2. Yes, fall is my favorite time of the year. However, it also brings the flu season. My daughter has been running a temp since Thursday. We took her to the doc, but the meds didn't work. By Monday she still had a temp and an ear infection. They changed her antibiotic, but now they think she may have Mono. She has to go back Thursday for blood work.

  3. Jennifer, I'm so sorry about your daughter. And here we were thinking she had strep. I'll be keeping her in my prayers.

  5. Gorgeous photo! We have a little color as well. But because of the drought, the colors are different this year. There are still some pretty trees, though.
