Saturday Cleaning-- Ugh.

Well, this is different to be here on Saturday since Jennifer and I switched days this week. I'll post this early, then will be cleaning house. So it may be a while before I check in again.

And speaking of cleaning house. I hate to do it. I'm terrible at it. And I'm an awful procrastinator when it comes to cleaning and laundry. In fact, I've owned and worked a Mary Kay business for the last few years just to make the money to hire someone to clean for us every other week (although it's not been a totally regular thing). I love the woman who has worked for us, but her health has gotten bad, and I don't think she'll be able to do it any longer. I've let the chores pile up, so today's cleaning is going to be a nightmare. We'll still be putting Christmas stuff away. And I'm pretty sure you can write your name in the dust on our glass shelves in the family room.

Tomorrow, I'm going to do something a little different. Instead of taking 6-8 hours to clean the house myself, I'm going to enlist the whole family to help. We'll divide and conquer. And I think it's going to be so much better.

So, do you have any tips for how you manage to work, write, play chauffeur, cook, go to church activities, and then somehow work in the cleaning? What suggestions can you offer for keeping the kids involved (besides the threat of punishment! LOL)?

  1. okay, i hate cleaning also. But the good thing about my house is I have no children at home. The bad thing is I have a dog, cat, both with black fur and a bird-a macaw. They create all kinds of dust.
I usually see it as a project! Two girls at work talked about all they do every weekend is clean. Yuk!
I'd rather write---but there are things we have to do. I mean have

  2. You poor dear. I'll be praying for you today as you tend that horrific task :-D LOL!

I have yet to find a writer who enjoys cleaning house. Unless they're using it to procrastinate against writing.

Back when I first started writing, I was determined to get the story out of my head and on paper. Hubby was totally on board, thankfully. I should mention that back then he officed outside the house. Anyway, he would walk in the door at night, look left then right, and based on the condition of the house (kids were on summer break) he would either say, "So, how much writing did you get done today?" or, if the house was clean, "Didn't do much writing, huh?"

That still pretty much holds true four years later. Only difference is now he doesn't talk about it :-)

  3. Yeah. My procrstinating does get worse when I'm on a roll with the writing or if I have a deadline. Since I've been writing like crazy since after Christmas, I've let it all go. If fact, today we finally took the Christmas tree down! I usually get that down on Jan. 1. And I still haven't done my year-end Mary Kay inventory! Luckily, I've only made one sale since then, so it'll be easy to figure out.

Well, it's 2:30 pm and the cleaning sfinished!! I survived it. LOL The only thing left is to put the shower curtains back up. They've been soaking in the washer with bleach and are in the dryer now.

Now I can get back to my writing!
