Welcome Guest Blogger Amy Wallace and enter to win TWO books!

The Write Start by Amy Wallace

Ever feel at war with the clock?

Whether you’re working on self-imposed or publisher-requested deadlines, there’s always so much to do and not enough time to get it all done.

You could give up sleep.

But that’ll only work in the short term. And who knows what will end up on that white page?

You could crawl into your writing cave and live a form of hibernation. But that’ll leave your heart and words colder than an Alaskan winter.

So what to do?

Here’s my suggestion. One that’s worked for five years now, whether I wanted to give up, write the great American novel or sit staring at the computer somewhere in between.

The Write Start—A Covering of Prayer.

“Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued.” (Ephesians 6:12-13 The Message)

What if you started your writing time not worrying over your word count or chapter goals, but seeking God’s heart for what He wants to say through you? As Christian writers we have an incredible privilege of sharing the power of a story and pointing people to the hope we have inside.

And no matter what your genre or audience, one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and our readers is time spent with God.

The Full Armor of God for Writers

Put on God's whole armor, the armor of a heavy-armed soldier, which God supplies, that you may be able successfully to stand up against all the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

Lord, as I am on the frontline, writing for Your glory, protect me with the armor You supply.

Stand therefore, hold your ground, having tightened the belt of truth around your loins...

Lord, help me recognize the enemy's lies about my life and my writing and refuse to believe them. Let me see instead that You have called me with a holy calling, not according to my works, but according to Your own purpose and plan. I wrap Your truth around me and stand firm in You.

Having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God...

Lord, protect my heart. Because of who You are and who I am in You, I can come boldly to Your throne and ask for the grace I need today. Help me not live by feelings, but by faith. Yet, at the same time, help me write the truth and put all the emotions necessary into my writing that will draw people to You. I wear Your righteousness, holiness, and purity today.

And having shod your feet in preparation to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news of the Gospel of peace.

Lord, show me the big picture today. Help me see what You created me for and how today is a part of my story to glorify You. Write Your gospel through my words. Help me tell Your story. Lead me into worshipping You as I work, that all I do honors You. Show me the adventure that awaits us today, Daddy. Help me rest, at peace in You. I strap Your gospel to my feet. Take me where You will today.

Lift up over all the covering shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked one.

Lord, help me believe that You are good and that You have good plans for me. Help me not look to contracts as evidence of Your favor. Help me instead see that You are the giver of all good gifts in Your perfect time. And the best gift of all is basking in Your awesome presence and enjoying You forever. I lift up the covering shield of saving faith, fully protected in You

And take the helmet of salvation...

Lord, protect my mind. Enable me to live in Your grace and extend that grace to others. Write that grace into all I type and speak. Help me to know and rely on Your love and share it with all I come in contact with today. I put on Your head covering of salvation. Thank You, Jesus for saving me!

And the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.

Lord, I trust that You will fight for me, for the battle is Yours. Wield the Word of God in my heart and enable me to listen and learn. And then proclaim Your truth in all I write and say. Thank You for saving me and daily making me more like Christ. Enable me to counter the whispers of the enemy with Your holy and awesome Truth. I hold out the Word of God as a sword to go before me everywhere I go.

Pray at all times on every occasion, in every season, in the Spirit, with all manner of prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints, God's consecrated people.

Lord, I keep in step with You as I focus on You today. In all I write and all I say, let me pray without stopping. Help me remember that I fight best when I fight in prayer. Let me encourage my brothers and sisters today as I lift them up to You. Keep me alert and willing to sacrifice my schedule to join You where You are. I love You, Lord.

(Scripture taken from Ephesians 6, The Amplified Bible)

Christy here:
I am so excited that Amy has joined us on F.A.I.T.H. today. Wow! What a powerful, faith packed devotion!

You know, Amy's prayer and devotion can apply to all vocations, all hobbies, all goals and desires that we as children of God want to achieve. If we are in His will, it is amazing the mountains He will move for us. We give You Glory Lord!

I'm reading Healing Promises now - and loving it! But FAITH Friends, if you haven't read Ransomed Dreams, the first book in her Defenders of Hope series, I want to give you the chance to have that free. So I'm padding this contest with 2 books. The winner will receive Ransomed Dreams, to be read first!! And Healing Promises!

About Healing Promises:

Facing a new threat.
When FBI Agent Clint Rollins takes a bullet during a standoff, it might just save his life. But not even the ugly things he’s seen during his years working in the Crimes Against Children Unit could prepare him for the overwhelming powerlessness of hospital tests revealing an unexpected diagnosis. If only Sara weren’t retreating into doctor mode…he needs his wife now more than ever.

Frozen in fear.
Sara Rollins is an oncologist with a mission–beating cancer when she can, easing her patients’ suffering at the very least. Now the life of her tall Texan husband is at stake. She never let the odds steal her hope before, but in this case, the question of God’s healing promises is personal. Can she hold on to the truth she claimed to believe?

Faith under fire.
As Clint continues to track down a serial kidnapper despite his illness, former investigations haunt his nightmares, pushing him beyond solving the case into risking his life and career. Clint struggles to believe God is still the God of miracles. Especially when he needs not one, but two. Everything in his life is reduced to one all-important question: Can God be trusted?

Read Healing Promises first chapter.

Good luck to all who enter! Check back Sunday, April 27, and I'll post the contest winner on F.A.I.T.H. When you leave a comment, please leave your email address or simply email me at christy_lashea_smith at yahoo dot com so I'll have a way to notify the winner!

It's also good to know we can remind each other of the truth. That's one of the best parts of sharing this faith journey.

  13. Wow, Amy. Actually, a double wow. The first one is for the beautiful reminder to give our work daily to the Father instead of trying to carry it ourselves. Beautiful devotional. Thank you. The second wow is for the blurb of your book. It sounds amazing. I'm looking forward to reading it.

  14. Good evening all! I can't wait to see who the winner is! And you know, you still have tomorrow to leave a comment. By the way, I'll post a review on my blog tomorrow.

I'm halfway through Healing Promises, and I'll share one thing I really like about the hero, Clint. He's the kind of man I think every girl dreams about marrying. He's a gentleman. He's a man who stands up every time his wife walks into a room, and they've been married 9 years! So it makes the story even more real when such a hero, a good-lookin' good guy fights a battle some don't always win.

  15. Hi -thank you so much for the interesting interview.

I emphathise with "the question of God’s healing promises is personal. Can she hold on to the truth she claimed to believe?" because I always believe without any doubt that God is able to heal anyone, the doubt comes as to whether or not it is His Will to do so.

Please enter me in the drawing. Thank you.

    God bless

    Ruth Dell
