First Writing Workshop

Some of you know that this past year I helped start a writing group, Carolina Christian Writers. It has been a wonderful experience and lots of learning. In March we were so excited to became an official chapter of the national organization, American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) . Since then we have grown and just this past month acquired two new members.

Today we have our first workshop with Author Gail Gaymer Martin! We'll be learning about writing Christian fiction. We are co-hosting the workshop with Triad Christian Writers out of Raleigh.

As our little group gets up and running, it's interesting to see the various stages of different writers, some brand new, others have been writing for a while, and a select few have publishing contracts. With so many people at various writing stages, it's a challenge to meet the needs of everyone. But with God's guiding hand, I'm sure we'll find a way.

When was the first time you attended your first workshop or conference? Were you overwhelmed? Was it all you were hoping it would be? Today will be the first writing workshop, or first Christian writing workshop some of these folks have experienced. Please share your stories.

  1. Jenn,
The first writers conference I ever attended I attended by myself, in Memphis Tn. with the TN. chapter of RWA. I knew no one, yet, I met a couple of people there. Trish Milburn, Julie Kenner. I had an editor appt. ( I wasn't writing Christian romance back then). All in all i think I was so new and just kind of duh--I didn't know any better than to do what I did. I mean I didn't do anythig stupid, but I was just so like a rough draft. Just there. But it was fun. Don't know that I'd want to go alone again, but I just wanted to see what it was all about.
Hope all goes well today. Check in and let us know.

  2. My first was Moonlight & Magnolias. I don't remember what year that was. I remember loving it! But I was so nervous the whole time!!

Now, my first RWA National conference was sooo draining! I needed to just go to my room and cry a couple of times. I was so exhausted when I got home that I collapsed on the couch and fell alseep with company over here!
