Corn or Green Beans?

When I was in high school I had this friend who shall remain nameless. (You'll see why as you read on.) She told me more than once how she and her sister were trying to drive their mother crazy. She said that if their mother would put a pan on the stove and heat up a can of corn for dinner, when the mother left the kitchen they would ditch the corn (where she wouldn't find it) and put green beans in the pan. The mother would come back and be very confused.
I can't swear that they really did this, but I was told they did.
My point for this post is this:
Don't we all have times where we felt like we'd put the corn on and turned around and it was actually green beans?
Of course I"m speaking metaphorically, here. But honestly I have days where I do the strangest things for no apparent reason. I"m contributing it to age. (My children are grown and moved out so I have no one purposefully trying to mess with my head.)
Apparently I do a great job of that on my own.
This is especially annoying when I come across something at work that is wrong and it's my handwriting. And I know what I was supposed to do. It's not like I didn't know and took a guess.
So, I'm hoping people will post today and tell me they have corn and green bean times.
Please? Don't let me think I'm the only one. Make up something if you have too.

  1. Welcome to my world. And while much of it I chalk up to age, I also have kiddos and a hubby who like to mess with me. I often do that in my writing, too. I'll go back and look at something I'd written days or weeks earlier and think, "WHAT did I do?"

Actually Lindi, wanna know what I attribute it all to? Busy brains. And who has a busier brain than a writer. There are more people living in my head than Carters has little liver pills. And yet I have the ability to keep their lives straight and know their quirks and problems. So with all of this going on, something's gotta give somewhere.

  3. Hey Lindi,

Haven't checked in with you guys in a while. Wanted to let you know I understand...100%. I often do insanely stupid things like putting my purse down and not being able to find it....scheduling a parent meeting or a dr's appointment and forgetting about it because I didn't write it down. That kind of thing. I mark it down as a personality quirk and try to limit the damage I do on my own. I often say that since I came into the world backwards (breech birth) that I'll forever be doing things the hard way.

    Mindy,
I kind understand the busy brain theory. There is so much going on.

  5. You can't blame EVERYTHING on her mother. And a proud mother I am.

  6. Cuz,

We can't blame everything on my mother can we?
She should read this and defend herself.

  8. Hi Diane,

Thanks for stopping by. Come visit more often. We love visitors. And I think there's something special about being born backwards. You should take full advantage of it.

  10. I'm terrible sometimes. My husband will have to tell me things multiple times, and I'd swear he never said it before. He says it's because I'm distracted being on the computer.

    Imagine that. :)

  12. Hi Missy,
Yeah sometimes I wonder what I miss when I'm totally into what I'm doing on the computer.

  13. Okay, so I have these days. But the worst thing is that KFC has stopped carrying green beans! Have you ever had a day when you were craving something-like KFC green beans- only to arrive and find that the rules changed?

I guess it's important to change and loss or confusion are excellent catalysts.

  14. Angie,

Come visit Ohio .........my OTHER cuz was up Sunday, we went to KFC and went to the lake to sunbathe while we ate. Point is, she donates plasma on Mondays so eats green beans for the iron on Sundays, and our KFC certainly carries them ! I guess different areas do different things........Does your KFC still carry corn-on-the-cob ? Ours quit that a year or so ago. However, never really bought that, you cant beat Ohio sweet corn !!
HOW did the pagent go ?? Inquiring minds want to know !?!?!?

  15. Some of the KFC's in NC still carry green beans and corn on the cop. I think it depends on the type of food chain they bought into. The ones that are now connected to the gas stations and other fast food restaurants seem to be a little different. I haven't been to Ohio in a while, but the last time I was there I couldn't find anyone to sell me sweet tea. That upset me!

And Lindi, no, you are not alone. I definitely have those days.

  17. Hey all,
Because "inquiring minds want to know..." :-)
I took 4th Runner Up in the Mrs. MT pageant and the Crowning Touch Award for best use of my local title in community service.

I think I'll post tomorrow on some of the things I learned or experienced from the weekend:-)

And yep, they have corn on the cob at our KFC, but I think I need to go to Ohio so I can get my fav green beans!
