Today is a day of curiosities

I woke up this morning wondering. Wondering all sorts of things.

I wondered if we really had guardian angels.

I wondered if we do, then why?

If we have guardian angels, do we know them?

Do we have relationship with our guardian angela and not know it?

I've never studied this in the Bible. I hear all sorts of opinions, but I've never looked it up and discovered the truth.

One of my friends, Tosca Lee, mentioned that her book, Demon: A Memoir was written from a place of wonderment. She was on a faith journey and wanted to discover more about her own faith. Now anyone who knows me, knows that this is one of my all time favorite books because the message is spectacular.

So I woke up wondering this I being distracted along my life's journey? If so, there are many things I "need" to do and handle for my family and work, like Clay did in Demon: A Memoir. Which or what is my distraction? Who is my Lucien? (The fallen angel that pesters Clay.)

Then I wondered, does my guardian angel exist to help fight my Lucien? What's the Bible say about all that? Does he/she befriend me and somehow help me by God's command?

I know that Romans talks about things that are unseen and wars that go on without our knowledge. But what would personal angels and demons have to do with the bigger picture?

Then I had another wonder-attack: What does the word "know" really mean and connote? What do I really know about anything in this arena?

I have several stories spinning around in my head. My plan is to begin one in the near future, when I'm done with my non-fiction, Insanity Rules. That's due to be finished November 30th. (If I can get past all the distractions. So I'm hoping there really are guardian angels that take care of Luciens...)

I think the story I'm considering first is Angel's Being. It'd let me explore those questions I woke up with this morning in a fun, fascinating and helpful manner. Maybe I could answer them for someone else too. The thing that scares me about it? Angel's Being would be speculative fiction. I'm thinking she needs to be a special character who can help me "see" the other characters in the book. Angel needs to take me on her story journey like Clay did for Tosca Lee.

And no, I didn't name that character on purpose. She just came to me as the exactly right name and being for the story. I keep finding more and more layers to that title and idea. How fun it would be to discover enough to give interesting talks on it. My mind swirls with more ideas and wonders...

But first, I need to finish Insanity Rules: Gems of Wisdom before I'm too distracted.

  1. Angie, my mind does that sometimes, too. I wonder about all kinds of things.

A woman in our church did a class a few months ago on angels. I wish I could have taken it, but it met during choir practice. I think I'll ask her if I can see her notes. Very interesting!

  2. I'm redoing Beth Moore's "To Live Is Christ." Just last week she referenced angels in a discussion of mysticism. She said, "Angels have important positions in God's creation. . .Angels were created to praise God and act as messengers and ministering servants." She goes on to warn about the recent fascination with angels.

Hebrews 13:2 says "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it."

So I would say yes, there are angels among us :-) Definitely worth a study, but gird yourself in prayer. Remember that the devil himself is a fallen angel.

  3. Yep, Mindy, hence the wonder about the Lucien character :-) I'll have to check out that Bible study you mentioned.

  4. Although I do share some of your fascination with angels, I get concerned for people who border on the worship of them. I've been wanting to do an angel Bible study for a long time now.

A couple of verses that come to mind about angels are:

    I Corintians 6:3
"Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?"
