Writing or Shopping Today?

Christy here:

Isn't this a great picture. I love antique typewriters.

Well, by the time you read this, I'll be somewhere in the North Georgia Mountains enjoying the cool crisp air and beautiful mountain views. There's a stream or river running right beside the cabin and my husband plans to log in a lot of trout fishing.

I'll have my laptop and hope to get some writing time squeezed in somewhere. I hope to get more accomplished toward my NANOWRIMO goal as this is the 4th week. I know I have a renewed spirit toward the story and feel I will finish it before the end of the year. Though I may not reach the 50,000 word goal, I am working and writing again. This is good. I love finding flecks of promise in what may seem like a gray situation.

Shifting gears here, I was talking to my mother the other day about the great sales Belk is having today. Belk is a favorite of ours. However, this cabin is about an hour away from the nearest Belk, so I doubt we'll drive down the mountain to shop. I need to keep a strap on my wallet anyway.

So I pose this question to you - Are you writing or shopping today? Check in and tell us either how many words you wrote. Tell us if you bought for everyone on your Christmas list. Or if you didn't do either and stayed home with a good book, tell us what you're reading and what you thought about it.

Wherever you are and whatever you do, I pray you'll be safe this holiday weekend.

  1. Good post Christy. Like you I plan on finishing my ms by the end of this year. Yeah!! I, too, have found new inspiration and the story is moving along. (I can only hope it's moving in the right direction!)
I've been doing close to 1000 words a day in the am before going to work.
Today I am working in the morning and preparing for our Saturday thanksgiving we have at our house every year for all the family we didn't get to see on Thursday.
Hope you have a great time in the mountains.

  2. I'm also in the mountains, but in North Carolina. We are at the ski lodge and I'm getting ready to go ice skating on an outdoor rink. Then we'll head down the mountain on a snow tube about 700 ft. I guess I'll be working off all that turkey and dessert I had yesterday. Have a great weekend!

  3. Well, I had all sorts of plans to write today. But I did a lot of things with the people I love instead. It means I gave up my dream of 50K words by Sunday night. There's no way with visiting family. I needed to squirrel away in my office for the entire day every day of the weekend to accomplish it.

I guess I felt spending time with the people I love and don't see that often as more important (or I would have done it differently.) I wish I could have done made that goal, but I will still write tonight now that everyone has gone to bed.

I feel like if I went on to eternity, the relationships were more important than work. I will still meet my goal of finishing my book this year. I will still finish my goal of sending it off to the publishers that requested it. I just won't make the Nanowrimo goal this time.

Then again, the goal was my book done and in the hands of a potential buyer, not 50K.

I do feel Nanowrimo has helped me get on track and push for every spare moment. It's helped me feel like there are other people in the race with me and a bunch cheering me on.

And on the shopping front: NO WAY would I consider going shopping today (Black Friday) or this weekend. NO WAY! :-) Crazy crowds are not my cup of tea.

    Happy Holiday,
    Angie

  4. LOL!! I was about to write in all caps: NO WAY. Just like Angie did. :)

I don't shop on Black Friday. I used to. But now I just can't bring myself to do it. I usually try to start the week following Thanksgiving. No crowds at all! But you don't find the great bargains. So it's a tradeoff.

We went to a movie on Friday. Saw Bolt. Very cute! :)

    Y'all enjoy the mountains!!
