Everyone is reflecting on 2008 and their goals for 2009. For me, I ended the year landing my first contract! It was a goal of mine for several years - as many as ten years as a matter of fact. So 2008 will be a memorable year for me. I revamped my website, redesigned my blog and created an author brand for my writing. I finished two manuscripts that will have to be reworked in 2009. (So I guess that is two new goals for me.)

As for goals in 2009, I've finally gotten to a point in life where I've been working on my goals for a long time now (multiple years) and it's a matter of just keeping on and not giving up. I try to write at least 3-4,000 words a week. I've learned that it isn't what I accomplish or write each day, but how consistent I am with a weekly schedule. This schedule allows me to finish nearly two books a year - even with a full-time day job outside the home.

My goal in 2009 is to keep up this schedule without neglecting God or my husband and daughter. It may sound easy enough, but with the unexpected things that crop up in one's life, it isn't so easy to carry out--especially with a job that seems to consume most of the hours of my life. My second goal is to look at my job as the blessing and gift it is and not resent it.

When the time is right, I pray God will provide a way for me to stay home and write. While I'd like to set this as a goal, it would be unrealistic of me to do so. I'm not in charge of the timing, God is. Instead, it shall be a prayer.

When you set goals for yourself, be sure that they are realistic and obtainable. And realize that God is always in control of the time.

  1. Yay, Jenn!! I'm still so excited about your sale. I can't wait to hold your book. :)

I'm amazed at how much you wrote last year with your fulltime job. Good going! We should all take note.

My plan is to write 2 or 3 books this year. One will be done mostly in January. After that, I hope to write at least one more.
