Overcoming Obstacles in Writing

All week I have been trying to overcome a few obstacles that have been keeping me from my writing. In many ways, this is a continuation post from what Christy wrote on Friday. I wasn't as successful as Christy in perserverance. This morning turned out to be no different.

I woke up around 6:30, but I rolled over and whispered to the Lord that I needed more sleep, to please help me sleep. On Saturday mornings I usually get up and write before everyone else in the house wakes up. I slept for two more hours and in popped my daughter.

After breakfast I had just gathered my laptop and writing notes and unloaded everything in my office and the phone rings. I tried to ignore it, but I knew it was my mom and guilt took hold of me--so I answered it. Another 40 minutes later, I get off the phone and my Internet connection is gone. It isn't supposed to happen, but lately when the phone rings, it knocks out our DSL, and Windstream wants to charge US to fix THEIR problem. I traipsed downstairs to find my Verizon hookup and here I am finally getting to my blog.

I still haven't written anything on my book. Where do the hours and minutes go in our lives? I used to be so good at time management. I would let the phone ring and call my mother back later. Now I worry that I'm putting my writing before family. I think that if it were Celina (my daughter), I'd want her to answer the phone if I were calling. I'm determined to spend the next two hours writing. I'll post a follow-up comment and let you know if I had any success today before we go ice skating--I need the exercise!

  1. Oh my gosh, we have Windstream DSL and have so much trouble with it! I wonder if it happens when the phone rings! I've never noticed. But it freezes and we have to reset the modem (and router usually) several times a day. Have you tried turning off your modem for 10 seconds, then restarting, Jenn?

I hope you got your 2 hours in!

  2. Yes, we've had to reset it before. Windstream is awful.

Okay, I've written over 1,100 words today.

  3. Congratulations that you got something written! That's awesome.

Also, I think there are some occasions we should put our family first. I think we need be sensitive to those times and I'm sure you are. However you are to a point that your wonderful writting love/hobby will pay off. And in that case, you may want to not answer the phone, especially if your sensing your going to get writing done! Every word counts - for real - now!!!
