Exercise Your Faith

My family enjoys the movie Evan Almighty. It's cute, it's fun, it's clean. It's one of those movies we'll pop in and watch on a quiet evening when we're all home together.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when "God," played by Morgan Freeman, talks with Evan's wife. Of course she has no idea who he is. Anyway, he asks her a couple of very pointed questions--If a person prays for patience, do you think God give him patience, or do you think He gives them the opportunity to be patient? If someone asks for courage, does He give them courage or the opportunity to be courageous?

I think this same question can extend to our faith as well. Every day we're given opportunities to exercise our faith. But how do we react to those opportunities? Do we throw up our hands and ask God why? Or do we lay it at His feet and acknowledge that He is in control, no matter what life throws at us, good or bad?

Responding in faith doesn't mean we won't be sad or disappointed. But we can't let those emotions control us either. Next time life throws you a curve ball, approach it with faith and ask God to help you through. No matter how big or how small, He's there for you.

  1. You are so right about reacting to opportunities! And that all comes down to our attitude - how do we choose to react?

And I thought that movie was so sweet! I was very suprised by the genuine spiritaul message. (No wonder most of the critics didn't like it.)

  2. Diane, you are so right about the critics. Which is one reason why I never listen to them :-)

And living on faith is hard at times, but we can learn so much from doing it.

  7. Tiffany, so glad you could stop by. I don't know what I'd do if God wasn't there for me. I get into too much trouble on my own:-)
