Mindy here. One of my husband's and my favorite TV shows is 24. And this season is exceptional. They've had more twists and turns than the wildest roller coaster.

Take last night, one of the characters who'd started the season as a rogue agent was actually working for the good guys. So imagine my surprise when he saved the day then turned around and killed another agent, slow and painfully I might add, before taking a weapon of mass destruction and heading off into the night. Talk about a hook. And all these rapidly changing events are happening in a twenty-four hour period? Yikes!

As a writer of suspense, romantic suspense, shows like this teach me about plot. I love that it's unpredictable and fast-paced. Two things I hope to achieve in my writing.

How about you? Are there any shows that you learn from? And I'm not talking about HGTV of the Food Network :-) What shows help make you a better writer?

  1. Okay, honestly I can't say the Batchelor has made me a better writer. I don't watch that many TV shows, but movies.....like the Scarlett Letter with Demi Moore and Gary Oldman---now they have some chemistry. I love to watch that movie.

  2. I haven't seen that one, Lindi. Might have to check it out.

  3. I've never watched 24, but I keep hearing about it! I'll have to give it a try.

I love to watch movies to help with writing. Shrek is a great one! :) Also, watching the interviews with the director or watching the movie with director narration is a great way to learn.

  4. I also thought it was very interesting they had Quentin Tarentino on Idol last night helping the contestants. He's a director--another aspect I hadn't considered.

  5. HI! I've never seen the show 24, but often see Tweets and FaceBook updates about it when it's on. It sounds good...just not my cup of tea.

Now, Heroes or Doll House...you know, those fantasy-supernatural-type shows...count me in. I love them. And yes, it helps with my writing a little I would say.

Ideas, interactions, characterizations...I love it all in those shows. I was a big fan of Buffy, Angel, and all those. :-)

    Have a great day.

  6. Lindi, I think Idol helps you with writing :-)

Lynn, you must be a fantasy/sci-fi person. I've seen ads for Heroes, but I'm not familiar with Doll House.

  7. I've never seen this show either. What makes me a better writer? Life.
