A Convenient Birthday Gift

My husband’s birthday is this weekend, and he asked for one main gift: a GPS for his car. I guess I should back up just a little first. His parents gave him a GPS for Father’s Day a couple of years ago. At the time, I used it, my son used, we used it as a family (in my vehicle), but I don’t think he ever used it in his car! Eventually, my son took it over, so he just told him to keep it.

Jump forward to the present, and after having a hard time finding locations of middle school tennis matches and track meets, he’s decided he needs one after all. Well, how convenient for me! I’d been thinking I needed one as well. :) So I did my research. Checked out Consumer Reports. Checked reviews of the products on Amazon and other sites. I had one picked out that was recommended from Consumer Reports. But then I decided to compare prices on Walmart.com.

And I found the cutest GPS that even comes with a free case. And it’ll fit in my purse!!

My poor hubby. He’s getting his GPS for his b-day this weekend. But I’m already wondering how often he’ll get to use it. :)

Do you have a GPS device? Have you ever been in a situation where you wished you had one?!

  1. Missy, You are so funny. Picking out a GPS to fit in your purse and it's for Terry!

Maybe you can find a deal that's buy one GPS and get the other at a really great price so you can buy 2!

  2. Last month my hubby broke his GPS, the one I bought him for Christmas in 2007. I was so mad, because we all use it. I had gotten so used to it.

  3. Christy, I'm feeling a little guilty! But I also realized it'll be a nice size for fitting into his glovebox when he's not using it. (Okay, so I'm trying to tell myself that! LOL)

  4. Jenn,

Yes, I know! I realized how much I missed ours once my son took it to college with him.

I almost opened my hubby's new one and used it when I went to the beach retreat. But I thought that was going a little too far!! :) In the end, I wish I had. I followed Google maps going there, and it took me an hour longer than it should have. Mapquest brought me home a totally different way.

  5. I don't have one, nor does anyone else in my family, but I'm beginning to think I'd like one. Especially everytime I deal with Mapquest's lousy directions :-)

  7. Mindy, I've had pretty good luck with Mapquest. But I've heard several people complain about it. Of course, we were late for Lindi's daughter's wedding because Mapquest was confusing! (Well, and because I caused us to leave later than planned.) :)

Cousin Wendy, so glad to see you again! I like paper maps, too. Only it gets a little dangerous reading one while driving! LOL And actually, the GPS is fun, because our family loves laughing at it every time we make a wrong turn. "Recalculating," the woman says.

Oh, and we sometimes change the language just for fun, too. :)

  9. We took him out to eat last night and carried the gift along. He immediately (before opening it)said, "I know what that is! A GPS." Because he had asked for it. The little goof ball. :)

Of course, it must've been a nice surprise to find out it was purse size! LOL
