The Start of Something New

Where has the summer gone?? It seems like just yesterday we were at the beach (photos of our condo and poolside boardwalk). And now today, we were at the school for the open house, meeting my daughter's homeroom teacher! And then we battled for school supplies at Walmart.

My younger kids start back to school on Monday. And it's time for something new for me. That fifth season: The new school year.

I'm always a bit lost when they start back. The house seems too quiet. I miss having them home during the day--to go to a movie or out to lunch. I miss letting them stay up late to watch our favorite TV shows.

Now it's time to start back to early bedtime. To battle over homework. To start playing Mom Taxi again.

But once I've adjusted to the changes, I'm sure I'll enjoy the quiet writing time once again. Back to writing from 8:00-3:00. Back to my routine.

But I'll still miss them.

What about you? Do any of you have that fifth season about to start? If not, do you feel a shift toward fall?

  1. Fifth season, I like that, Missy.
This year I'll start a fifth season. My daughter starts pre-k. I'm looking forward to a couple of days ahead where I'll be off of work and will be able to drop her off and pick her up from school and I hope those days will be filled with opportunities to write!

  2. Oh, what a cute age! She'll love preschool, Christy.

  3. My kiddos are still too young but I am sure looking forward to a little cool weather!

  4. Missy,
It's hard to believe it's already that time again, huh? And yes, you will miss them during the day...but next summer will be here before we know it!

  5. My little granddaughter starts first grade this year and she has already lost 4 teeth and another one loose, she can't with for school to start. I am so glad those days are over for me.

  6. Faith, I saw a few yellow leaves on a shrub the other day! And it really made me feel like fall is coming!

Lindi, I'm sure you're right. But boy, new school years seem to get here way faster than summer. Especially for the kids. :)

Edna, enjoy that cute snaggle-toothed age! Kids are so cute when they lose those front teeth. :)
