Down to the Wire

Christy here.
I'm not sure if this image really does a good job of portraying how I feel. I couldn't find any pictures of the lady hanging from one hand from a wire, but that's how I feel!

Nevertheless, I am 3 days away from checking in with my airline for the flight to Denver on Wednesday. Yep, I'm talking about heading to the ACFW Conference, baby!

There is so much to do and time is running out!

I'm not pleased with my One-Sheet. However, I did buy a pack of pretty paper yesterday and I'll print the document on that. I've never heard of an agent or editor signing an author based on the pretty paper of their one-sheet, but isn't there a first time for everything? (I'm totally kidding here, folks.)

A mound of laundry waits for me, it wants to be washed and some of it wants to go to Denver. My book really wants to be finished and I keep telling it, I want to finish it, but there are things like the family, the job and my need for sleep that takes priority much of the time. It will be finished though. I know this with a certainty I've never recognized before.

My excitement is building at the thought of flying to a new city, seeing my friends I've met through ACFW and enjoying the fellowship and celebration of writing for God that bonds us all.

I'm also looking forward to five days away from work. That, friends, is really high on the "what I'm looking forward to" list.

I haven't secured my pitch. I have other stories to pitch besides the one that finaled, but of course, none of those are written. I'd hate to pitch something that isn't ready yet.

These are a flurry of feelings I have going on here and I must remember who is in control. I'm sure I'm not alone in the crazy emotions that surround attending a conference. We must remember our Lord is in control, His Spirit is within us, and we should look upon all things as Jesus would. The things I've listed above are frivolous. They will be finished and gone, in a blink. The time we spend with our Father and the way we treat others is everlasting.

  1. Okay, I'm thinking we may need to order room service and hunker down to work in our room Wednesday night. How 'bout you?

  2. Sending my best wishes to you- and everyone else I know- for the conference.

Christy, good luck with the Genesis awards. Let me know how you do with your pitches and awards and all else when you get back. I guess I'll live vicariously through you for a while. :)

  3. I have been reading a lot about this conference and I wish all you ladies a great time and maybe a little rest. :-)

  4. Thank you,Edna. I'm not so sure about getting any rest, but I know we'll have a great time.

  5. Thanks Dianna and Edna for your well wishes!

Dianna, maybe next year you'll get to come.

Mindy, I'm with you, we may need to chill out Wednesday... Hopefully we'll get some work done. I imagine you and I catching up! With each other!

And I've made a decision this year, not to push myself too hard and to rest when I need rest and run when I'm ready to be on the run. I'm looking at this as a working vacation ;)
