Maggie Night

Christy here.

The Georgia Romance Writers held their Moonlight & Magnolias Conference this weekend and last night was the Maggie awards.

And here are the results:

1st Place ~ Kelli Gwyn, Violets & Violins

Kelli was in California and unable to attend the Maggies. She gave a wonderful acceptance speech from her cell phone, while our own GRW member, Walt, held the phone to the microphone. If I'd been using my head, I would have taken a picture of Walt holding the phone to the mic!

Congratulations, Kelli! I know we've seen you visit the FAITH blog in the past! We're celebrating with you!

2nd Place ~ Christine Johnson, The Aviatrix

3rd Place ~ Belinda Peterson, Dreaming of You

Look how beautiful she looks!!! Lindi is such a wonderful encourager! I will never forget my second GRW meeting (the first had been about 2-3 years earlier and I'd been too afraid to return until 2006). I sat down beside Lindi and she made me feel like we'd been friends forever. And then she introduced me to Missy, another great encourager, and ACFW... The rest is history. Congratulations, my friend!

4th Place ~ Cara Slaughter, Love on Assignment

Honorable Mention
~ Christy LaShea, The Bridge Between
~ Dianna Shuford, Racing Against Time
~ I was honored to have tied with my critique partner.

It was an honor to have been a Maggie finalist, especially with these two great ladies!

Are you celebrating anything?

  2. Christy,
Thanks for the post. Congrats to Kelli!! Way to go girl!!

And also Christy and Dianna. The Maggies contest is a great one. I know I was honored to be a finalist with you guys. Dianna, I really enjoyed hanging with you a lot at conference. You are a great person. Christy, we missed you but enjoyed seeing you and meeting your hubby at the dinner. (I even got to pat her belly and say hello to William!)

It was a great weekend. I came home a took a LONG nap. Now time to get to work, huh Dianna and Christy, Miss Requests for the full!! You ladies are going to get sick of me.
Thanks again Christy for the post.

  3. Great post, Christy.

And Congrats Kelli on winning the Maggie! I wish you all the best to come.

Lindi- 3rd place- very exciting. I had a great time at the conference as well, and enjoyed getting to know you better too. It often takes me too long to climb out of my introverted shell to get to know others. Wish I could join you guys at your WORD meetings, but, oh well, I'll take what I can get.

I wish I were more photogenic, but being a Maggie finalist was exciting enough to overshadow that fact. Thanks for the encouragement from both of you- Christy and Lindi.

I was blessed to even final in the Maggie's and get a full request. Definitely feel free to pester me to get the manu finished Lindi. I'll probably need and deserve it.

  4. Congratulations to you, Christy, and to all the wonderful writers whose names were called last night. In my opinion, anyone who finals in The Maggies is already a winner. Your contest is so well run and has an excellent reputation that adding the words "Maggie Finalist" to one's list of accomplishments really means something.

Back when I got the call from Anastasia with the news that I was a finalist, I knew I wouldn't be able to attend the highly regarded Moonlight and Magnolias conference. I asked Walt if he'd be willing to accept in my place in the off chance my name was called, and, great guy that he is, he agreed.

Walt came up with the brilliant idea of calling me on his cell and putting it on speaker phone mode so I could hear the announcements. Since I never expected him to have to leave his chair, we didn't discuss what would happen if he did. So, when he put the phone to the mic, I didn't realize what was happening until he gave me that fun prompt. (Gotta love his sense of humor.) It's nice of you to say I gave a wonderful acceptance speech, Christy. I was in such a state of shock I feared I'd made no sense.

Thanks to everyone who gave so generously of their time to make The 2009 Maggies happen. And thanks to everyone who's been celebrating with me. Happy dances are more fun with friends.

Sorry to go on so long. I may have been "speechless in the Sierras" last night, but today I've been downright effusive. Thankfully, my hubby is a very understanding--and patient-- man. :)
