Belinda here.

Monday, March 1st. My mother's birthday.

So, here's the story.

My brother's girl Tiff and I plan this lunch for my mother at my mother's house yesterday. We (okay, I) decide it would be fun to have finger foods instead of a full meal type thingy. You know, it's after church, we're all going to be sitting around. I just wanted to do something a little different.

So I order 5 pounds of wings, made this buffalo chicken dip that everybody loves, I do make a potato salad, and a carrot cake. My hubby, daughter and I arrive before my brother and Tiff.

Well, we bring all this food in and set it on the counter. I start making the dip because it needs to be cooked. I'm busy putting that all together and my mother (who's turning 69) looks at the containers and asks if those were wings. I said yes. She promptly tells us (I'm not taking ALL the heat) that she's never eaten a wing in her life.

Oops!! Sorry!!

So I throw the dip in the oven and she sets down at the table and I give her a wing and then I grab a camera. (The batterys were dead so no pics, sorry!) She eats the wing. Well, it takes her about ten minutes to demolish the wing..demolish not in a good way. She picks past the skin, puts a sliver of meat in her mouth, wipes her finger on a which point I tell her Tiff is bringing pigs in a blanket so there's more meat coming.

Today's question? Ever surprised somebody with something they weren't thrilled with? Or been surprised yourself with something along the same lines?

Mother was fun in all this and we had a good time and plenty of food. But like Tiff and I said...."Note to self. No more wings for mother!"

Happy Birthday Mother!! We love you.

  1. I've never been able to pull a surprise off! I'm usually so concerned that the person won't like whatever I'm planning, I go ahead and tell them!

  2. Funny story, Lindi. I can't say that I have anything to input here so I'll keep silent. But, I did get a laugh out of your story.

  3. Edwina, that sounds like what I would do.

Dianna, so much for staying silent, LOL.

Lindi, Happy birthday to your Mom! hope the rest of you enjoyed the wings.

As for the question... My husband is the HARDEST person to buy for. So much so, that I have stopped buying him Christmas/Birthday gifts. He cannot be pleased! He tries to be, but he can't lie. He usually goes and buys himself something and lets me know what he got for Christmas/Birthday.

On the other hand, he surprises me sometimes and pulls it off with success and he usually buys great gifts!
