Preserving Your Facebook Friends

About 3-4 weeks ago, I was on my new Droid and accidentally hit a bad link that I was trying to delete on my new touch screen. My Droid is so sensitive, I don't think I actually touched the link, the thing is like a magnet. I can be touching one area of the screen and it will pick up and open a link I didn't intend for it to open. That's what happened in this case. It was one of those bad links that came to my Inbox on Facebook.

I have since discovered it was a virus that disables your FB account and will attempt to steal all your passwords and your friend's passwords, etc. Someone told me I was fortunate that I was on my Droid at the time. It couldn't attack my computer. At any rate, FB's customer service is nonexistent. I had to start a whole new Facebook account from scratch. How will I ever find those 3,000 friends, and 1,825 fans I had spent years building? Some of them I may never find again.

So many viruses can attack your FB account without you opening a link or causing it to inadvertently happen. How do I create alternate connection methods to reach those FB friends if something like that happens again? I plan to ask many of them to follow my blog. Many of them won't, but some MAY. At least that way, I have a chance to post a message to them.

Some people have searched for me and found me again, bless their hearts! Others I have found through mutual acquaintances. Many of them have sent me private messages asking what happened. Some were in the form of, "I thought we were friends." It pains me to think that an FB friend may have thought I deleted them on purpose. Therefore, I'm asking you, what can we do to preserve our FB friendships, especially those who we don't have any other means of communication? Is it possible? What solutions are there? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

If you are a Facebook friend of any of us authors on the F.A.I.T.H. Blog, you can follow our blog here: At least the six of us could post messages to you regarding our disabled FB accts if anything happens in the future.

  1. That just makes me sick to hear about losing your account, Jenn! I'm so sorry! I guess over time, many will find you again. I'm assuming you put something up at your website and blog about it. That should help people find you.

    Good luck!
