Rally For Support - Keep Christy Accountable - Week #1

Christy here. I'm about to do something bold. It could be embarrassing. In fact, I'm afraid I may fail. But I'm determined to axe my way through that jungle of temptation, embarrassment, error, and fear...

To finish this book, once and for all!

I'm asking for a RALLY. I wish I could say I'm forming a rally for something really worthwhile... like World Peace, Banishing World Hunger, Animal Rights, or even back the small group forming to make Quilting an Olympic sport...

(OK, I made that one up)

But I'm not on any of those bandwagons. It's all about me right now, and although I wish I could be on someone else's bandwagon, I can't.

I've got to finish this book.

It's the same book that has been hanging over my head for way too long. I love my characters and I think they love me, but by now, I think they're ready to see a happily ever after. They've been living in sagging middle and walking down revision row for way too long now.

Let me up this ante by saying the manuscript has 3 requests. I have an invitation from 2 agents and 1 editor to see the FULL.

Its been through the contests. It doesn't need any more. It needs to be submitted. It needs to be put to the test. I need to go ahead and throw it down for the gamble. I've got a 50-50 chance, by golly...

Let's proof for the last time.

Let's perfect this last Act and be done.

Let's get the thing to the post office and say "Adios, manuscrito!"

.....Here's where you come in:

I am going to use this F.A.I.T.H. blog as my check in point. Baggage claim. Every Sunday I will post where I am on this story. Starting today, I will give you my progress, good or bad. On my own blog, At Split Ends, I will post daily what I've been doing with my time towards my writing: Good or Bad. I'm hoping that putting my progress out there to the public will force me to finish this once and for all.

I want you guys to come see me on Sunday, right here on FAITH, or visit my blog during the week, and see where I'm at on my revisions. Support a fellow writer. Come by and give me some words of encouragement. Or, if it has been one of those days, you can throw me a dirty look. Whatever will push my gas pedal into writing to FINISH THE BOOK! Tell me I suck if I haven't written a word. I can take it. Tell me to keep pushing ahead if I get stuck.

Give me the finger if you think that abrasive measure will work...

Although, I'll remind you, that wouldn't be a very Christian thing to do...

And ONE LAST RULE, you must comment on Blogger. Facebook comments won't count. Follow the hyperlink and join me on FAITH or At Split Ends.

Okay. Here's my starting point for this Rally.

Current Word Count is 40,426.
TARGET Word Count is 60,000.

That's it. I only have less than 20,000 words to write.

It should NOT take me another year to get this far.

My main challenge for this week is that I return to work after 11 weeks of maternity leave. I haven't used these last 11 weeks as productively as I should have. Now, I'm down to the wire. I said I'd have this book mailed by now and it's still in my computer, not finished.

I'm going to set another goal for April 30th - to have those last 20k words written, revised and get the story printed and mailed.

Can you help me? I'm a procrastinator in need of a kick in the pants.

You may ask, is there a reward in it for you?

YES! The person who has collectively left the most comments through the FAITH blog, and/or my personal blog, he or she will receive a $10 Starbucks gift card & an additional surprise from me.

I appreciate you joining me on this journey. I encourage you to build your own bandwagon. If you are in need of encouragement to finish writing your book, I'd love to hear from you. While you are encouraging me, would you please share where you are on your journey? Working together, we can accomplish our goals and someday, fulfill our God-given dreams!

  1. Really, Christy!! Did you just post this? This that would make you accountable to the world?

Good for you!! I'm on you...with you...
And I'm in the same boat.
So maybe my encouragement to you will help me. Dianna---where are you? Our Google group has gone global!!

You can do it--yes you can--you can do it--yes you can...

    okay, enough cheerleading for now.
    I'll be watching you.

  2. I'm here and I'm cheering, Christy. Cheering your guts as much as egging you on. You know where I'm at on my goals. I don't think I'm courageous enough to announce it to everyone...too embarrassing.

    Go, Christy, Go!!!!

I guess I'll have to step up the comments on the Google group, huh? I think I'll have to try sending you a message, Christy, as close to everyday as I can manage.

How do you spell success? C-H-R-I-S-T-Y!!!!

Belinda, should we create a chart of Christy's progress??? Line or bar graph? Hmmm. I'll have to work on that one. Maybe you can slip it into your blog one day, Lindi.

  3. So you finally resorted to bribery, huh? You go girl! I'll be more than happy to kick your little hiney. With or without bribes.

  4. Hahahahaha, ladies! Thanks so much for the support. and yes, Mindy, bribery. I'm going low this time, but it will be worth it.

I'll mention Edwina posted on my blog today as well - I put a blurb about the progress/contest there too. Mindy was on there too. Thank you both, it makes me smile...

I forgot to mention FAITH ladies are totally part of this contest too. Is that fair? I don't know, but I'm on my own island now and ready to get off! Somebody's going to win a gift card and a gift! And I'm gonna mail that manuscript off.

Lindi, Dianna ~ Yup, the google group just went global. We all three needed a little help, don't you think...?

I want to hear about your progress too!

  5. I like this accountability. I might have to steal this idea. I'm on a deadline before the 30th, too, so I'm right there with ya!!

    You can do it!

  6. Dianna,

Should we join Christy and Rebecca with the April 30th deadline?

I think we might we say here in the south.

  7. Christy, you do know this is ALMOST as bad as when I told tons of people I was starting a new diet for the new year! [grin]

Well, I'm glad you're doing it. I love your story and want you to finish it! So good for you!! You can do this. We'll harrass you and cheer for you and will celebrate very soon!

  8. Rebecca wrote 2300 words yesterday! Woo-Hoo!

I, however, lost words... read more on my blog...

Missy, yes, I told ya this was pretty bad. And I'm on a diet too. I think I'll post my progress there.

    Uh, no.

Lindi, You need to join this rally, girl! How many words did you write yesterday?

I'll be posting daily about my progress on my blog...

  9. You know, I shouldn't have even used the word BAD. I should have used the word BRAVE!!! I'm proud of you doing it!

Great job on the over 2k words!!
