Better Than a Hallelujah

Mindy here. I tend to be a bit of a fanatic when it comes to song lyrics. My kids will be singing in the backseat like they know the words to a song. Only problem is, they're singing it like they hear it, which ends up coming out as some weird concoction of words instead of the actual lyrics. So in all my fanatical wisdom, I feel the need to pipe up and tell them the correct lines, only to hear that dreaded word--"Whatever."

LOL! Yes, I appreciate good lyrics. Especially those that really speak to me.

The other day I was driving--alone--and heard this wonderful new song from Amy Grant. Read through the words, then think on them.

Better Than a Hallelujah

God loves a lullaby
In a mothers tears in the dead of night
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.
God loves the drunkards cry,
The soldiers plea not to let him die
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah.

The woman holding on for life,
The dying man giving up the fight
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes
The tears of shame for what's been done,
The silence when the words won't come
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
Better than a church bell ringing,
Better than a choir singing out, singing out.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah

The honest cries of broken hearts. Wow. God knows our hurts, our, grief, our pain, and He patiently, yet eagerly, waits for us to share them with Him. And when we do, it's better than a hallelujah.

Happy Tuesday, everyone.
