From My Aunt and Uncle

Lindi here:

Those of you who have been following the blog know my cousin Wendy--Cuz posted here frequently. In December of last year she found out she had cancer and passed away in late February 2010.

Mindy posted a nice tribute the next day. All the F.A.I.T.H. girls felt like they knew Wendy. She surely inspired us to keep writing and finish our books. She was a great cheerleader---and friend.

This past weekend the family gathered in Alliance Ohio to pay tribute to Wendy. We had a great time seeing family members and sharing memories of Wendy.
Wendy's family had put together some collages. Here is one.

They also had a balloon launch. There were 52 helium balloons--one for every year of her life--and we each wrote something on a balloon. Then we all launched them up at the same time.

Judy and Jerry wrote me this email. I wanted to share it with you.

We want to thank Mindy Obenhaus for the wonderful tribute that she wrote for Wendy and thank all the F.A.I.T.H. girls for letting her post on your blog and including her in your comments. We know you were a big inspiration to her and she told us many times about you.

I was going to send you this cartoon but thought I would put in here to share with you all.

A young lady was sitting across from a publisher as he said, "We loved all the words in your manuscript, but we were wondering if you could maybe put them in a completely different order".

Wendy would have sent that to you if she had seen it.

Judy and Jerry

Here is Wendy's mom--my Aunt Judy, me, and my aunt's cousin Kim.

And here is Wendy's dad--my Uncle Jerry and me. (PS-- My uncle reads my books!!-but don't tell him I told y'all that.)

  1. I'm all teary eyed. I was always honored that Wendy came to our blog and read it and was such a cheerleader for us all. I loved seeing the collage and the balloons were beautiful. Wendy was a wonderful person. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  2. Christy---she especially wanted you to finish the book---which you did. And she knows you did!
    Way to go.

  3. I want to thank everyone for their support of Wendy, who was one special lady to many. This past weekend it was good for us to get together and let go. But she will never be forgotten.

Lindi's mama & Wendy's favorite aunt (her words not mine).

  4. Now you've done it, Lindi. You've gone and made me cry. Shame on you!
We were all honored to have the opportunity to get to know Wendy. I'm so glad you shared last weekend's events with us. Thank you for making us feel like part of your family.

  5. I'm so glad that you guys were able to get together to celebrate Wendy's life. Sometimes that's harder to do than other people think, but so worth it.

(I'm signed in to a different email account again today so my last name and pic isn't showing up, but it's me. Shuford.)

  6. Ok, I'm a bit emotional right now! Bless you and your family, Lindi.

  7. Lindi, thanks for sharing your cousin with us! And thanks for sharing this wonderful tribute you and your family gave her.
