Deadline: Conference

Christy here. I took an unintentional weekend off from blogging last weekend, and now that I'm back, I don't think I'm any better than I was a couple of weeks ago.

This Sunday marks the Sunday before ACFW. As I face the week ahead, I can't help but feel a little stressed. I mean, where did the month of August go and all of the things I said I was going to do to prepare for conference? Could God grant me about 6 more hours in the early morning or late evening hours to take care of my business once the children are tucked in their beds? Somehow, I don't think this is a prayer that will be answered or something that is within His will.

Oh, well, can't blame a girl for trying.

As I face the week ahead, I have two days of work that must be dedicated to diligence and wrapping up duties at work to prepare my desk for me to be off for a few days.

There's laundry and general housekeeping so that my dear mother, who has so graciously taken a couple of days off from her job to help my husband while I'm gone, won't be knee deep in dust and dirty clothes.

I must pack. Gee whiz. That's an ordeal in itself. There are also articles of clothing that need to be ironed. Double Gee Whiz!

I'm currently waiting on business cards to arrive. I know you all can't imagine that I would wait until the last minute to do anything, but I did wait until the last minute to order new business cards, and they are due to arrive the day before my departure! I sure hope they get there!

AND, I need to print out the 1st 5 pages of my manuscript, in case someone - like and editor or agent - wants to see it. I may print out a One Sheet, although I find I waste a lot of time on these pretty things that no one really wants to see - speaking of the agent or editor.

I'm trying not to get too stressed out, but it is hard to maintain control. There is so much to look forward to this year. (However, I doubt anything could top out the amazing roller coaster ride that last year's conference was, personally speaking.)  This year, several of my friends and blog acquaintances are up for awards. I love cheering them on and can't wait to see who wins.

I'll also be reporting for the Afictionado magazine. My first reporting experience! Be sure to catch my article in the October issue!

Well, enough of my rambling. Who is going to ACFW and what are some last minute things you're doing to prepare?

  1. I'm going, Christy!! I got line edits for A Family for Faith on Friday so will be doing those before I leave. I've worked some over the weekend so should be able to get them done without any trouble.

Today, I'm washing clothes that I might want to pack. Of course, since I'm flying, I won't be able to pack much! I refuse to pay for a second bag. :)

I also need to make a list so I don't forget anything! And I need to make sure all the kids' activities are covered (can't leave them stranded at school!) :) I'm thankful for a husband who's willing to do double duty while I'm gone (and has done so for years).

  2. Well, Christy, you know you'll see me. Am I ready? No.

I still have to pack, iron, and print my pages off too. I made my kids clean our living room sofa (that no one sits on usually) last weekend and began laying outfits on it to take, but that's as far as I go.

Right now, I'm just praying to keep my sanity between now and then and for God to grace me with His peace when I get there so I'll be able to appear somewhat intelligent.

  3. Hey Christy,

I'm going but a few days ahead of you all for the board meetings. I'm actually giving appointments this year. It's a little zany, the schedule!

I have my laundry done, but all the kids are out of the house now. I am working on the Creative Cooking for Simple Elegance release for mid-October. It's out on ebook and CD, but now it's going to be out in hard copy. I had NO idea how much work that would be this week :-) But it's going to work out...pretty sure...

Prep? Wanting to make sure I have all my appointments managed for ACFW and I'd really like to make it to a couple classes myself, but I think I'll be ordering the CD and listening on the ride home.

I'm focused on packing and getting all the stuff at home ready for me to be gone too. I've learned a system for my packing. I always pack all at once and do it the day ahead now. Then I have a day for something I've forgotten to pop into my brain :-)

  4. I'll be there and I'm still getting prepared. I've been working on sell sheets, but I still need to print them. I just bought my new luggage, but I haven't started packing yet. Need to wash and iron some clothes.

I'm already starting to feel overwhelmed. I've got to get things worked out at work as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

  5. I'm going - as you know, Christy. Today, my husband took a photograph for my one sheet, pasted it in and I have my one sheets printed, as well as the pages I will be giving to the agent and editor, and an outline for a Christian self-help book for women - just in case anybody asks what's next on the agenda. I haven't even begun to pack, but I do have a detailed packing list. And I still have to learn my part for the choir presentation on Sunday. :) Not to mention the major project at work that I have to have finished by the time I leave on Wednesday. Overwhelmed and stressed, but still know that God is in control.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!!

  6. I'm not missing that week before conference rush, but I am going to miss you all at the conference. I really am.
I know everyone is going to have a great time.Take lots of fabulous photos and fb or blog so I'll know what's going on.

  7. I'm glad I'm not alone in last minute conference prep. Can't wait to see you all there!!

    Lindi, wish you were going!!
