What's Your Favorite Thing about Autumn?

Last night I had a dream and as I was writing it down, I felt the Holy Spirit lay upon my heart that it meant a fresh new beginning was about to take place in my life--change was in the air. As I thought about it throughout the day, I couldn't help but compare it to the change that our environment will soon undergo with autumn coming.

It's my favorite time of year. I love the colorful leaves, the fresh dew and frost in the mornings, crisp air, a flowing breeze, festivals, harvest time, and the craft fairs. One of my favorite things is visiting the glorious mountains on the weekend of my birthday. Something about autumn is fun, relaxing and romantic. I enjoy the fire pits, roasting marshmellows and hotdogs. Sitting by a warm fire drinking hot chocolate or coffee. It makes me want to write! Autumn is such an inspiring season.

What's your favorite thing about Autumn?

  1. The one thing that I love about Autumn is the leaves exploding into multiple different colors: from orange to red - to me, this represents God's handiwork; when I see these leaves changing in the Autumn, this represents that no matter how many changes we go through in our life, God is always there guiding and leading us.

When I lived in SD, you could tell it was Autumn, because during the start of September it would get colder and the days would get shorter. When it got colder, you can smell the cold. Once it got colder people would start their fireplaces and you can smell the wood burning. I miss smelling the cold air and the wood burning in fireplaces.

  2. After such a long hot summer this year, the cooler mornings are great. Autumn color always reminds me what an awesome artist God is! My granddaughters name is Autumn, isn't that "cool"

  3. Regina, I agree. Also, the fact that Autumn always comes regardless of the year is a reminder His promise to remain constant to us, the same yesterday, today, and forever no matter the century.

  5. I enjoy the cooler temperatures that allow outdoor activities without the threat of dehydration. I also love to drive/ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC and looking across the overpasses to see God's paintings. So beautiful.

  6. There are so many things I like about fall it's hard to list them all! I don't know, but I think I can smell football in the air...it's time to pull out the Steeler garb! I love decorating for fall maybe more than Christmas. The gentle breeze, the floating leaves that fall from the trees, cool evenings, warm days,...what's not to like!

  7. Dianna, I'm definitely look forward to more outdoor walks and bike rides when the cooler temps arrive. We went walking at the park this morning. It was wonderful. Then I spent an hour by the pond in the gazebo writing a scene. The ducks thought they'd take several baths and splash a lot of water.

  8. Shannon, I forgot about football, but you're exactly right! As a Carolina Girl, I'm a Panther fan. I was telling my daughter that we need to go ahead and put out the fall wreath that my mom made and drape the orange and yellow fake leaves across the fireplace mantle, and put out the orange candles. We don't decorate for Halloween, but we do for fall.

  9. Jenn, I thought of fall because of that wonderful cold front that came through! It was in the 50's here this morning. I woke up freezing. But it's absolutely perfect right now at only 76 degrees.

    Love the crisp, clean air!

  11. Richies and Dianna, you're so right about it being God's artwork!

  13. Fall seems to be official in upstate NY. Labor day weekend is cool, windy and the sky is definitely a fall sky.

Evidence #1 - too cool to go without socks. I like socks and I've been missing them. Not a problem.

Evidence #2 - the cat pawed the blanket last night to get under it rather than settle for taking up most of my pillow.
    And so it begins...

    Have a great autumn, everyone!

  14. Debra, The high today in NC is 85, and it looks like the rest of the week will be in the mid-90's. I still have to wait a few more weeks, but at least I know it's coming!

  15. Missy, I love those days in the mid-70's. It can't get more perfect than that.

  16. Yes, enjoy it Jennifer. We had those ninety degree days last week which was above normal even for the last week of August. I love love love fall, but then winter's cold? not so much.
Which is why I dream of a NC winter when I retire!

  17. Debra,

I always hate that first time I have to put on socks. I miss my flip flops so much!

  18. Hehe, I wear socks every night-- summer, fall, winter, and spring. It's one of my issues. I can't sleep without socks on my feet.
