Pets--A Part of the Family

Missy, here. I've been dealing with a sick doggy this week. He had surgery for a malignant mast cell tumor a few weeks ago, but they didn't get clear margins. So last week, they went back in to remove some more tissue. And they got it all this time!

But he developed an abscess and had to be taken to the vet yesterday. I left him to have a drainage tube put in. He still has the tube in--which is really grossing my daughter out! :) And admittedly, grossing me out a bit as well.

So I've been playing nurse to a dog last week and this week. Kind of like having small children again! And I can't wait until he's healed and ready to romp again like the photos.

Do you have pets? Have you ever had to nurse one back to health?

  1. I don'[t have any pets now, but I really want a dog. "Next house," my husband says. In the past, I've had two cats and they were definitely a part of the family!

  2. Edwina, I used to be a cat person (while growing up). But now I'm such a dog person! They're my babies now that my two-legged babies are growing up so quickly. :)

  4. Missy, I know exactly what you are going through. It is a lot of work caring for an ill pet. Our dog had two cysts removed in the past, that turned out to be non-cancerous. But, as of the end of June she came down with some unknown illness that ravaged her (kidneys, pancreas, liver, etc.) She used to weigh over 60 pounds and now she is only about 30 pounds. The worst of it is, she's only 5 years old and shouldn't be having any problems like this so young in life. Poor baby has good days and bad days. And we just keep hoping and praying that she can overcome whatever it is that she is fighting. Hope your happy looking dog recovers as well.

  5. Lindi, that GIGANTIC puppy of yours may steal your heart eventually. :)

Eva, I'm so sorry about your dog's mysterious illness. I hope it'll go away as quickly as it hit. Poor thing!

  6. Missy, He's so cute! Like you, I grew up loving cats, but we kept them outdoors and they never lasted long. I'm VERY allergic to them. Now we have a golden retriever and I've come to love her dearly.
