Not Much to Say

Mindy here, and I am at a loss. I can't think of a thing to blog about today. Too many other things on my mind, I guess, most of which amount to nothing at all. Or not. Christmas parties, Christmas presents, decorations, the Carol Awards (they open Jan. 3 this year), and, of course, writing.

Today is one of my favorite days of the holiday season. Tonight is my friend Drenda's annual cookie swap and ornament exchange. This is probably our eighth or ninth year. A group of women, that's mostly stayed the same, comes together for an evening of fun and frivolity. We vote on the best cookie, and the winner gets a prize, but Drenda always has door prizes for everyone. The ornament exchange is always a hoot. There's always one or two ornaments that everybody wants, so there's a good bit of "stealing" going on.

On the writing front, I've been polishing my WIP, getting it ready for a couple of contests. It always amazes me how I can think something stinks, but when I go back and read it later I think, "Hey, this is pretty good." I guess the contests will be the judge of that, though.

With an uber active soon-to-be-four-year old running around the house, I have to continually ask myself what I can accomplish while she's awake, and what is best reserved for nap time. Therefore, while I prefer to use nap time for writing, often it's used for paying the bills, answering emails, or something else that actually requires my undivided attention.

That said, I usually try to start out in God's word. Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." He knows what I want to do and what I need to do. If I seek God first, I figure He'll add the rest :-)

So what's been going on in your world? Are you snowed under (literally or figuratively)? Are you enjoying this most wonderful time of the year? Or maybe you're in a funk. That's okay, too.

Happy Tuesday, y'all.

P.S. Someone just sent me this video, and I thought y'all might get a kick out of it. Next time you come across someone who's writing the next best seller, a sure hit that will sell millions, pass this dose of reality on to them.

  1. Oh my gosh, Mindy!! Spew alert next time, please!! That video was a riot! :)

    Thanks so much for sharing.

As for being snowed under...this is a pretty busy week holiday-wise. Several parties that require food. :) But they're all fun, and I've looked forward to them. I did, though, end up having minor surgery on a toe today, so I'm having to miss our local ACFW chapter party tonight. I'm bummed about that.

  2. Hi Mindy:

When you started talking about cookies I thought you were going to explain what my wife and her friends do. She has six friends who all make six dozen cookies each. Then they exchange cookies. Each leaves the party with a dozen each of six different types of cookies for the holidays. Each makes the cookies they are best at cooking and no one makes the same cookies. As a primary beneficiary, I really approve of this custom. : )

  3. Missy, I hope that toe feels better soon. Toes are one of those things we don't give much thought to until they hurt. Then...OUCH!!!
And I hate that you have to miss that party tonight. Bummer. You'll have to make up for it at the others.

  4. Vince, we do bring a few dozen each, and we all go home with a plate full of different cookies and a handful of recipes. My husband and kids like being benefactors too:-)
