A song with a message?

Christy here and it's a White Christmas in Georgia! Weather forecasters say we haven't had a white Christmas since the 1800s! For me, this is really special as I've lived in Georgia all my life and always wanted a white Christmas like the songs talk about. This picture is my house this morning. It started snowing yesterday evening and is supposed to snow all day.

Today, I thought I would share a message that was in our Christmas Eve Service program. I don't know the author, but I thought the information was interesting...

A SONG WITH A MESSAGE?

According to modern folklore, the song "The 12 Days of Christmas" was written to help young believers learn about their faith. Although no evidence proves that claim, some say the popular carol contains these codes:

*The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ.
*Two turtle doves are the Old and New Testaments.
*Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love.
*The four calling birds are the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
*The five golden rings are the Law: the first five books of the Old Testament.
*The six geese a-laying represent the six days of creation.
*Seven swans a-swimming represent the gifts of the Holy Spirit: prophesy, serving, teaching, exhortation, contribution, leadership and mercy.
*The eight maids a milking are Jesus' eight beatitudes.
*Nine ladies dancing are the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
*The 10 lords a-leaping are the Ten Commandments.
*The 11 pipers piping stand for the 11 faithful disciples.
*The 12 drummers drumming symbolize the 12 statements of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

Merry Christmas from snowy white Georgia! I hope your season, wherever you are, is filled with Christ! The Reason for the Season!

Christy

  1. I love it! You know, last year we had a white Christmas here in Dallas-Ft. Worth, so I can totally relate. The first my family had seen. Very exciting. I bet the kids had a blast playing in the snow. Makes a blessed day extra special

  3. Thanks Mindy and Missy!

I liked this message because it relates what I thought was a "worldly" holiday song and brought it back to Christ. I hope it's true, the origin.

Mindy, I heard you guys were in the 80s before Christmas! It's crazy weather... we may be warm like that by next week.
