A Blessing

Missy, here. I'm sorry I'm late posting. This is one of those weeks where I hardly realized it's Thursday!

We had an Ash Wednesday service at our church last night. A very meaningful service for me. I'd like to share with you a dismissal blessing that we read last night as the service closed. The pastor read, and then the congregation responded with the writing that's in bold.

Go forth into the world in the strength of God's mercy to live and serve in newness of life.
We are sent in Christ's name.
May Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven, bless and keep us.
Amen.
May the Lamb of God who laid down his life for all, graciously smile upon us.
Amen.
May the Lord our God order all our days and deeds in peace.
Amen. Thanks be to God.

So, are any of you giving up anything for Lent?

  1. Missy, I am giving up the same thing for Lent as I did for my New Years resolution, but in a deeper more specific sense. God knows what I am talking about :)

One year I gave up chocolate... I do not recommend that! lol
And another year I gave up cookies, which was much easier to do than chocolate :)

  2. Chocolate would be difficult! I remember the year Lindi gave up potatoes. That would have killed me! Probably worse than chocolate. :)

I haven't decided whether or not to do anything this year. I guess I really need to decide today!

  3. Wait, now I'm thinking it was bread she gave up. Bread and potatoes both are usually staple foods for me. :)

  4. You were right the first time. It was potatoes. And it was hard. I remember thinking it would be mashed potatoes that I would miss the most. Turned out it was Lay's Potato Chips. I still love them!
I'm not giving up anything this year. Nothing's been put on my heart.
I liked the blessing you posted.
I must tell you though, when I first starting reading I thought you said you wanted to share a dismal blessing. I was confused to say the least until I reread and realized it said dismissal. :)
