Joining Hartline Literary Agency as In-House Publicist

Jenn here. Terry Burns made the announcement yesterday on the Hartline Blog, but in case you haven't heard, I'm pleased to announce here on the F.A.I.T.H. Girls Blog that I'm joining the Hartline Literary Agency as their new in-house publicist. I'll also be contributing to their blog on a regular basis regarding marketing and PR.

My day job is for a statewide agency where I provide traditional and online Marketing & Communications. Since I work for a nonprofit, I'm a whole department all by myself wearing the many hats of print and online design, writing and editing, event planning and coordination, social media marketing, fundraising and friendraising, public relations and whatever else arises. I've been in this field for (cough) at least fifteen years and was freelancing for various magazines while working as a Technical Writer five years prior.

The Internet and technological advances are changing the world, just as e-books are changing the publishing industry. I'm a Generation Xer--between the Baby Boomers and the Gen Yers. In short, I'm old enough to remember what it was like before the Internet, but young enough to grow up with computers. I love the smell of old and newly printed books and magazines, but growing more and more dependent on my Droid and Kindle--and especially my GPS.

My husband and I already started one business, which brought us a bit of experience in being entrepreneurs. We are both at a point in life where we are looking back and evaluating our successes and failures, but young enough to start something new and look to how we want to retire and spend our later years. Flexibility in how we spend our time, a home office location, and setting our own rules of business grows more appealing each day.

For these reasons and many more I won't bore you with listing, we've decided to start Upon the Rock Publishing, an e-publisher and publicist of quality Christian fiction, nonfiction, and select mainstream books that specializes in helping authors launch their books in the online market. Feel free to stop over and follow our progress as we get up and running, and eventually add more services. We will be working with a team of Editorial Freelancers and Graphic Designers and Book Launch Promoters.

  1. What an exciting time for you and your husband! Congratulations on your new position with Hartline and your new company! I'm sure we will see and hear great things from both companies!

  2. Thanks Edwina! It's exciting and scary--especially with the new biz. We're taking things nice and slow since I can't quit the day job yet.

  3. Jenn,
These are exciting times for you! I love it.

  4. I'm very excited for you. I think the world is changing and your dreams are coming true! As your friend, remembering a few years back conversations, I'm smiling at all the wonderful opportunity on your doorstep.

  5. Congrats on both business ventures! I'm really excited for you!

  6. Congratulations Jennifer! I hope both exceed your expectations :)
