Confessions of a Critique Group Part 4

Here we are! Lindi, Meg, Maureen and Missy. Week 4 of the Confessions of a Critique Partner series. And do we have a fun week for you!

Missy, Maureen and Meg have all had great posts. We've talked about how we did things, gone down memory lane, even had a fiction discussion. The bar was set high for my post!

There are so many great things I can say regarding our critique group. We had the connection--the sizzle-the compatibility you hear when people talk about having a great critique group. I'm sure God put us together for that time for a certain purpose. We worked long and hard on our own chapters, on each others chapters. We did give the praise and construction criticism needed to move forward with this journey.

I could get really sappy here and turn this last week into a hanky-needing post. But I decided to go a different route.

We all have to start this writing journey somewhere, right? Below are 4 blurbs. Each one of us was writing these stories at some point when we were meeting. Match each blurb with one of us.

1. A rich banker who’s guardian of his runaway niece thinks he doesn’t have anything to offer her. A lonely, rebellious teenager longs for a family. And a spunky waitress vows to help the uncle and niece heal their relationship. Then she finds she wants to be a part of their future, but individual loyalties make a future seem impossible.

The banker has to learn that because God loves him, he does have something to offer his niece and the woman he loves. And to realize he’ll never be happy without the spunky waitress in his life.

2. Headstrong French Creole Marguerite Dubuisson, guilt-ridden for leaving her
brother behind in the fire that orphaned her, is willing to fight for her
surviving treasures or for anyone who makes her feel safe against life’s
uncertainty. She never imagines “anyone” might include a handsome American
sea captain awaiting hanging on board the ship taking her to her betrothed.

Noah Randolf, second-born son of a Carolina planter, has won nearly
everything he’s ever wanted by running French and British blockades—until
this fateful trip to New Orleans. His penchant for danger has reaped a
British noose. Surely, the angry young woman providing his brief reprieve
cannot be the answer to his prayers.

3. Adopted as a young child, Holly Kerensky returns to her California hometown to seek her roots and finds work and love with plantsman Michael McKittrick. When she discovers a tragedy behind the foggy memories that drew her to Michael, she fears she’ll have to keep her adoption a secret from him forever.

4. Mitch Snyder needs a fiance for the weekend. Coco Smith needs to repay a debt to a friend. Will the steamy, sultry, island nights fuel this deception? Or will this pretend weekend awaken feelings that could last a lifetime.

To be entered in the drawing you just have to make an attempt. If your answers aren't correct, that's okay! You're still entered. Remember, we all change as we write and this was about 10 years ago. So, give it your best shot!

Check back Friday-We will post the blurbs with the correct authors--and ANNOUNCE the winner of each of our debut books and a $25 Amazon card.

Happy guessing!
