Hot Stuff

Mindy here. Last night was one a few of us FAITH girls had been eagerly awaiting. Yes, some of us just love to watch The Bachelor or, in this case, The Bachelorette. In the words of Lindi, we LOVE love. And last night, we watched as Ashley Hebert accepted a proposal from J.P. Rosenbaum.

I don't know why, but I think this couple might actually make it. Of course, I hope for that at the end of every season. What can I say, I'm just a hopeless romantic who wants everyone to find their happily ever after. You go Ashley.

Now that The Bachelorette is over, it's time for Bachelor Pad. I'm not sure how I feel about this show. I hate that so much of it seems to be based on "hooking up" and doing whatever feels good. However, there's just something about it that makes me not look away. Kind of like a train wreck. And this time they've got Jake and Vienna in the house. I'm guessing that should make for some explosive encounters. For the record, I can't stand that woman. Of course, Jake's not the good Christian boy with high morals that he seemed when he first appeared on Jillian's season of The Bachelorette. Jake, if you're reading this, go back to your first love. I'm just sayin'.

Speaking of hot, we're burning up here in Texas. Not literally, however we could spontaneously combust at any moment. I mean, we were 107 yesterday. We're looking at 110 in a day or two. Now a sporadic 100 degrees wouldn't be so bad, but today will be our 32nd consecutive day at or above 100 degrees. And, unfortunately, there's no end in sight. 2011 now holds the number 2 position in the record books for the summer with the most consecutive days at or above 100. The record is 42 days, and the weatherman is telling us that record is now in jeopardy. I'm sorry, but this is one record I really don't care about breaking. What I'd like is a really nice hurricane or tropical storm to blow across Texas and knock that high pressure somewhere north of the Red River.

And why is it that whenever it's hot, someone tries to fry an egg on the sidewalk? Of course, we're way past that. Believe it or not, my kids actually saw a car in a parking lot the other day with a tray of cookies baking on the dashboard. Seriously. And yet we still see news reports about someone who left their kids in the car. Don't even get me started.

So what's HOT in your world? Or cool. At this point, I think I'd prefer to hear about something cool.

Happy Tuesday, y'all.

  1. Ah--I had to be at work early--will call you tomorrow-but although I loved the ending--I hated it for Ben. What a great guy.
Although I was a JP pan from Ashley's pj-glasses wearing date with him.
He's cute, cuddly, and now engaged. :)

  2. I think we all felt bad for Ben. He's just such a good guy.

  3. Mindy, I read the post title and thought Oh, Lawd!

I missed the finale, but hope all will work out for Ashley.

107 in Texas, oh my! If I were there, we'd have to spend a little time by the pool some where but also a little time in the cool a/c working on our manuscripts at our laptops with a nice tall glass of unsweetened ice tea or water. A little bowl of fresh fruit would be nice too.

Right now, I trip to Alaska would probably be good to beat this Southern Heat!

  4. Or we could all go to Seattle and visit my brother. I think it's in the 70's there. Or it was a couple of days ago.

  5. You ladies are on the right track. But I'm thinking Colorado. One quaint little alpine village, to be precise :-)
