Angie here:

I thought it'd be fun to share a contest happening over on Peg Phifer's blog. And guess who is the featured author?? Me :-) The contest is for both a Gems of Wisdom: For a Treasure-filled Life and a beautiful pair of earrings.

Alrighty, now for a question. Do you like to try new things, experiences, foods?

This is my daughter teaching us about sukiyaki in Thailand. Such a fun time!
Tonight my hubby and I tried making our very own sukiyaki. Mmm! We'd originally tried it on a trip to Thailand a few years ago. We've looked around for a hot pot for a while now. We found one with the help of our daughter down in Memphis. She was visiting my brother for 2 months leading up to his wedding. They found exactly what we were looking for in an Asian grocery store in Memphis.

So we had a great time experimenting with the hot pot tonight. We added a bunch of fresh and frozen veggies and lobster bits to boiling broth. I love the influence from our Korean exchange student in our cooking too. So I dropped in 2 eggs to poach. Then there was the special sauce. Yum! We figure it's similar to fondue since you cook it and eat it at the table. Super healthy!!

The fun was not only in the food, but in the memories.

Some of our best vacations have resulted in changed family life for years afterward. Our vacation to Seattle and Victoria yielded regular family traditions of teas for Easter, Christmas, and special days. Those traditions are now over 11 years celebrated in our family. Thailand to pick up our daughter after her exchange student year--sukiyaki.

Do you have memories from vacations that have changed your lifestyle? Or ways to relive great memories?

Remember to pop on over for your chance to win those earrings and the book at Whispers in Purple :-)

  1. Great interview on Peggy's sight, Ang.
I don't know if we have many traditions that have come from vacations.
But it's something to think about!!
    I love yours.

  2. One thing we started on vacation one year that has stuck was turkey and strawberry sandwiches. :) I saw the recipe in a magazine at the beach. Very yummy!

Spread cream cheese on the bread (we like using strawberrry cream cheese), add slices of turkey, sliced strawberries and spinach leaves. It's amazing!

  3. Sounds like you've had some great trips Angie!

Strawberries and turkey Missy, never though of that combo :)

Was at a wedding shower once and they put pickles with tuna in little finger sandwiches that were delicious ! I've duplicated that :)

  4. Missy--I'll have to try your recipe. Can't say I've had it before. But it does sound beachy!
Eva--I eat pickles and tuna all the time. I love it!
