A - Z Writing Challenge - O

Mindy here. O is for Olivia de Havilland.

Ms. de Havvilland's most famous role is probably that of Melanie in Gone with the Wind. Melanie was only a secondary character, but a memorable one indeed.

So why did everyone love Melanie?

She was gracious, kind, almost to a fault. Remember her doing her best to make a somewhat provocatively dressed Scarlet feel welcome while everyone else's tongues were wagging? Melanie loved Scarlet in spite of her flaws, and probably understood her better than Scarlet understood herself.

Yet despite her overwhelming kindness, Melanie was no doormat. She was tough when she had to be. Knew when to take charge. You gotta love that.

Who are some of your favorite secondary characters and what is it that makes them stand out?

Happy Tuesday, y'all.

  1. Oh, Mindy--I love Melanie! Amazing character. Thanks for bringing GWTW into our realm. :) Love this.

I once had a secondary character in a book I never finished, but I had cp's tell me a secondary character was taking over this novel. She was mean and the villain. Probably why I never finished the book.

  2. That's too funny, Lindi. Perhaps said character wanted her own book, her own HEA. Something to consider:-)
