Unglued with Lysa TerKeurst

Angie here: Ever come unglued? I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Lysa TerKeurst and visit about her new book, Unglued. The chat fascinated me as we discussed four different reactor types. Of course I immediately assumed my reactor type. Until Lysa explained further.

Unglued is a book that helps us understand not that we have only one type, but that we interact in various roles based on the relationship we're in at the moment. We react differently with our spouse than we do with our children, boss, or parent.

Rather than peg myself as one type, Lysa drew out a diagram to help me understand how I might actually travel through different emotional battlegrounds. There are two main categories on the spectrum of conflict and then each has a couple of sub-behaviors.

1. Exploders-Bring honesty into the conflict.
2. Stuffers-Bring peacemaking into the conflict.

According to Lysa, when these two types come together, they create soul integrity. We also move around the emotional wheel depending on your relationship with each person in your life.

I loved her explanation of how exploders need to read Psalm 15:1 aloud for the full effect. "A Gentle answer turns away wrath..."

While a stuffer needs to read Proverbs 15: 1 this way, "A gentle Answer turns away wrath..."

The exploder needs to remember to be gentle while a stuffer needs to remember to voice the answer. I thought this was not only simple, but a very clever way to show a practical example.

So how does that affect us? http://www.ungluedbook.com has an assessment button to take a test for each relationship you have. The free challenge lasts for 5 days! So check it out quickly.

About the book:
God gave us emotions to experience life, not destroy it! Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has had experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued. We stuff, we explode, or we react somewhere in between. What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in her usual inspiring and practical way, Lysa will show you how. Filled with gut-honest personal examples and biblical teaching, Unglued will equip you to: Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your important relationships. Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be honest but kind when offended. Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly improve your communication. Respond with no regrets by managing your tendencies to stuff, explode, or react somewhere in between. Gain a deep sense of calm by responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.

About Lysa: My opinion? I think Lysa is a very humble lady. She admits her personal tripping points and then uses those points to help others. After meeting Lysa, I have a healthy respect for another author trying to live out her life for the Lord.

Lysa's Bio: Lysa TerKeurst is a New York Times bestselling author and national speaker who helps everyday women live an adventure of faith. 2. Isn't it funny how we know, but when we think of different relationships it can change? That really surprised me.
