Mindy here. Do you have a list? Not just a to-do list, but a to-do-someday-when-I-have-some-extra-time list? You know, those things that seem to get put off until you really can't put them off anymore?
Well, I am happy to say that I am finally tackling some of that list and boy, does it feel good.
Cleaning my office was one of those things. I had so many piles that they just kind of ran together until I didn't know what was where. I hit it with everything I had this weekend. But then, the alternative was helping outside in the 100 degree heat. Uh, no. Cleaning my office may not be my favorite thing, but at least it's air conditioned.
As I sorted through things, I made new piles for those things that didn't belong in my office at all. Like mail addressed to my husband that I have no clue what it's about. Yet does he open it. No, he tosses it on my desk. So when he came in Saturday evening, he had a nice stack of things waiting for him on his desk:-)
I also discovered that my thirteen year old has been using my storage drawer for...well, I'm not exactly sure what he was using it for. All I know is that I found broken pencils, paper clips that had been broken into pieces, and shreds of glue he had once used to adhere his hands together. Why, you ask? I have no idea. I'm just glad it was Elmer's and not Gorilla glue.
Then there was that stack of notes, emails, etc. that needed my attention. Yeah, it was on the bottom. Luckily, nothing too pressing. Just things I'd been putting off. Like making that annual appointment with my OB/GYN.
Now, I have rediscovered that the top of my desk has a nice wood finish. I labeled baskets and file folders, putting the things I use most often within easy reach. I even dusted and vacuumed.
Am I proud of myself?
You bet I am. Because for me, a cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind. And goodness knows there enough going on in my mind already. Monday, I delighted in entering my office, as opposed to the here-we-go-again feeling I've had in recent weeks. Now I have one less excuse not to write. And I'm all about getting rid of those excuses.
What chore are you notorious for putting off?
Happy Tuesday, y'all.
