Switching Gears--A Time To Rest

If you look to the bottom right of this picture you see what looks like a dot. It's a pelican. A lone pelican on the vast ocean, surrounded by water.

Have you ever felt like this little guy?

Have you ever felt like a little dot in the mix of a huge life, surrounded by oceans and oceans of things to do? And you feel like you're being swallowed up by all that business and craziness that is this world?

If the answer is yes, you are not alone. I know I've felt that way many times and so have many others.

But just how do we fix it all?

How do we switch gears and try to balance all the business and craziness and do all the things we need/want to do?

Well, I have no quick fix. No sound advice like making lists and stuff like that. (I don't do lists well, although I am learning--and I'm completely unorganized!)

But the one thing I do know is that we can rest. Yes, rest. Rest in the God who created us in His image. Rest our hearts and minds on the good things of Him.
Because you see, there were really 2 pelicans.

We are never truly alone. We always have Jesus---he's living inside us, waiting for us to call on Him.

Some days it's the only thing keeping me sane.

What about you? Crazy days? Crazy life? We'd love to know we aren't the only ones.

  1. I needed this reminder. At a time when everyone is excited and preparing for the wonderful, blessed events of this week, I feel sad and alone, when all I want to do is rejoice in my friends' blessings.

  2. Christina--I know what you mean. I'm going to dig deep, and find the joy that comes from Him. And I'm going to look for the blessings that are here at home. You and I can keep company this week. :)

  3. You mean I'm not the only one staying home? ;) I like your plan. Sometimes I have moments of impatience with God's perfect timing, which is funny since I used to wait at the doctor's office for hours on end without reminding them I was still waiting. It seems I'm constantly going to God and reminding Him. *g*

I figure while everyone is busy at conference I'll try and get some fresh writing done.

  4. Hi--No, you aren't the only one staying home. :) Maybe we should have a staying home blogging party. I think Christy is going to be around as well. We can cheer on those who are there, and revel in what we are accomplishing here.

I firmly believe God knows what we need when we need it. Sometimes it's hard to agree or understand.
So, yes, let's get a lot of writing done this week. What are you working on? I have a brand new story to write.

  5. Lindi, what a great post. I love the photos!

Christina, I didn't get to go to conference last year, so I know exactly how you feel! When I saw photos of my friends, and I wasn't in the group, I felt so left out.

But I'm like you, reminding myself of God's perfect timing. And He's proved over and over that He's always on time. :)

  6. Thank you, Missy! You're always encouraging.

Lindi, I'm kind of in between projects right now. I have one out on submission and another waiting for critiques from my cps before I can get back into polishing. I have a frontier story started (2 chapters) I think I'd love to work on that one.

I like the sound of a blogging party. *g* I think there are two online conferences going on this week, too.
