Restaurant Woes and Book Giveaway

Last night some of the family met at a restaurant to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. My hubby and I were the first to arrive, fifteen minutes early (very unusual). This particular steak place doesn't take reservations, but they do have call ahead seating. Can not understand this. Maybe someone in the restaurant world can clue me in.

But, back to our story--no one had 'called ahead' for the non-reservation, so when I told the hostess we needed a table for 8 she seemed perplexed. I had to excuse myself to use the restroom and when I came back, my hubby said they could split us into 2 groups of 4.

So I tell the hostess that we are celebrating a birthday and we really need to sit together. She then said the wait would be an hour. I said okay. (even though there were hardly any people waiting and I didn't understand that either).  The hostess seemed somewhat put out that we were willing to wait an hour for a table of 8.

We were seated just over 30 minutes and had a very nice waitress, which totally made up for the attitude of the hostess. Sometimes I don't get why people are in customer service positions.

    I'm with you - I don't understand about "no reservations,but call ahead seating accepted" makes no sense. Same situation happened to my family a few weeks ago.

  3. Lindi, you might want to let the manager know how the hostess acted. They should probably do some training! The one time I've called a manager about something (inappropriate food handling that I witnessed), he was very grateful, said he would work on training.

    Sounds like a fun b-day celebration!

  4. Missy--I didn't even think about that. I personally think she just didn't want to be at work that night. All the other staff was so friendly!
