In the USA, this weekend is known as Memorial Day Weekend. For those of you who aren't Americans, we celebrate the memory of the veterans who fought wars to keep our country safe.
Like most Americans I have relatives who have fought and fallen while serving. I appreciate what they did, but I'm sad that they were lost before their time.
The future that stands before us is scary. Will we be fighting more wars? Wars at home? More lives lost? I'm certain this will be the case. If it occurs while I'm still alive I hope I can withstand the pain and suffering that our armed service does. Even when not fighting, many are part of the losing of loved ones. It requires Godly strength to maintain one's faith.
As a Christian, I'd like this to be a day we also remember those who have held strong to their faith. The Christian's who were beheaded because they wouldn't renounce the name of Christ. Because they were strong may we be strong as well.
Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
